SAUSAGE CHEESE BALLS RECIPE
The big game is coming up soon and I had leftover sausage from these Stuffed Mushrooms so I made these!
I realize we all have different reasons for watching the Super Bowl…
A) You really love football.
B) You really love Super Bowl Food.
C) You really love talking your friends and tolerate the first half so you can see the halftime show performers.
Which one are you? I think I’m a little of all three.
HOW TO MAKE SAUSAGE CHEESE BALLS
-
Heat oven to 350ºF. Lightly grease bottom and sides of jelly roll pan or use parchment paper.
-
Stir together all ingredients in a large mixing bowl, using hands or spoon. If your mixture is too dry add a little more milk. Shape mixture into 1-inch balls. Place in pan.
-
Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until brown. Immediately remove from pan. Serve warm with sauce for dipping. Barbecue sauce, chili sauce, Ranch or maple syrup all go with these.
The first time I made these was for an appetizer, but as I’ve made them over the years I feel like they are leaning towards a breakfast dish. Especially if you use pork breakfast sausage. They are great with maple syrup.

Sausage balls were easy quick and so so good!
First off, let me say that I LOVE this website and have tried many of the recipes and am exicted to say that there are quite a few keepers on here that my family and I love. This one, however, I feel like it could use some tweaking. I made these for a potluck tomorrow and I was somewhat disappointed because I feel like they ended up tasting more like biscuits than meatballs. My suggestion would be to possibly cut the bisquick down to half of what the recipe calls for or even 1 cup and I think it would also be great if there were a couple dashes of worcestershire sauce thrown in to cut down on some of the richness of the cheese. Just a suggestion. Thank you for all the wonderful recipes!!
Thanks Heidi for the tips. I appreciate it.
That was crazy, huh?
My daughter made these this past Saturday. AWESOME!!! But she served them with Honey Mustard. YUMMMM
I’ve been making these for 35 years! Kids love to form the balls – I now make them using whole grain baking mix. (Not pancake mix) You can freeze them before baking. Just put them on a baking sheet for an hour or so to freeze, then transfer into freezer bags. They also freeze well after baking.
One cup of Bisquick can be substituted by a mix of one cup of flour, 1½ teaspoons of baking powder, ½ teaspoon of salt, and 1 tablespoon of oil or melted butter.
Thank you wikipedia!
LOL just answered my own question!!
i absolutely love your blog. it is 8am on my day off and i am now starving!!
do you know any substitute for the Original Bisquick?
Thank you
Thanks for being on top of it Nadia!
What kind of dipping sauce do you recommend for these? Is there a recipe for the sauce? Thanks!
Oops! Just saw the sauce on the recipe. 🙂
Sounds great! will be trying it for when I join other seniors for breakfast some morning. Always looking for new ideas.
I’ve arrived at this recipe through a link from today’s e-mail issue of “101 Days of Holidays”, so I’m new to your blog … but I’ll be back. These sausage balls look and sound amazing. I plan to make them next week. One thing, though … I’m assuming that you cook the ground pork first. Is that right?
I’ll bet these would be yummy at any fun family gathering.
But I have the same question as the person above my post … Should the sausage be cooked separately, before making up the recipe? Would love to try these for sure!
@Bev, @Koboclio,
You actually don’t cook the pork ahead of time. You mix it all together and bake it until brown.
My husbund love those! Thanks for sharing!
@Wendy,
Oh no! Did you use a 1/2 teaspoon of ground rosemary? That would be way to much and would definitely change the whole flavor of them.
I made these for my boyfriend last night and I must’ve messed up. First- they came out looking like those cheddar cheese biscuits you get from Red Lobster. Then, he brought them to work today and he said they tasted like “a$$.” Are there any tricks that need to be known? I used ground rosemary but that shouldn’t mess it up too much right?
Those sausage balls sound so tasty!
I think I could eat this all day long, because I love such delicious looking things 🙂
Awesome. These look so fast!
I love these things- they’re so simple but they’re so good. Perfect super bowl food!
I love these sausage balls! My Aunt always makes them for any family get together we have!
Oh and to answer your question, I too am all 3! I love the food, the socializing, the half time shows and commercials, and of course I love the football!
