Monster Magic Cookie Bars
Monster cookies are a “kitchen sink” of the cookie world. Take all your mix-ins and make the yummiest cookies – but I’ve made it even easier by pressing them into cookie bars.

Every hurricane season in Florida we wait with baited breath, hoping and praying that this isn’t the year that a big one hits us. When I first moved here I thought, “Why do people live here?” Coming from the West, I always felt safe.
Seven years ago we were hit by Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita and were without power for a week. My husband and I spent our nights in the dark playing cards via candlelight, each with one headphone in our ear listening to the updates of recovery progress. But the pros of living here outweighed the cons.
Last weekend tropical storm Isaac hit us and as with the first storm of every year, the shelves of the stores were bare with water and gas at an ultimate demand. We stocked up years ago so the only things I was short on were baby food and ketchup. A shortage of ketchup would be a MAJOR emergency in my house. Major.
We spent the weekend moving everything inside and school was cancelled for my kids. Luckily the storm fizzled and unimpressively danced its way across us, pouring down rain and flooding the streets. But we’re seasoned enough to know that it definitely won’t be the last storm this year.
These Monster Magic Cookie bars were a dose of much needed sanity after 3 days of being confined indoors.
Traditional Magic Cookie Bars are one of my favorites. How can you go wrong with a buttery graham cracker crust? I assume it’s a recipe everyone has but if for some reason you don’t, I’ll be happy to send it to you. This is a Monster Cookie twist on those bars filled with oats, peanut butter, and M&Ms.
OTHER CHOCOLATE RECIPES:
Monster Magic Cookie Bars
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
- 1/2 cup salted butter, see Note
- 1 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
- 3/4 cups old fashioned oats
- 1/2 cup peanut butter chips
- 1/2 chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup mini M&Ms, or regular
Instructions
- Note: You can use unsalted butter here but with all the sweetness in the recipe it really is good to have to salt to counteract it. So if you use unsalted butter, you can either add 1/4 teaspoon salt to the graham cracker crumbs or sprinkle salt on top after the bars have baked.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place butter in a microwave safe bowl and heat up for about 30-60 seconds or until melted.
- Combine butter and graham cracker crumbs in a medium bowl and then press the graham cracker crumbs into a parchment lined 9x13 baking dish that has been sprayed with cooking spray.
- Evenly pour the sweetened condensed milk over the graham cracker layer. Sprinkle the oats, peanut butter chips, chocolate chips, and M&Ms evenly over the sweetened condensed milk and gently press in a little. Remember that all of the toppings are approximate so add more or less depending on what you like.
- Bake at 350º for 20-25 minutes or until brown. Cool and slice into squares to serve.
I made 2 batches for a potluck using chocolate wafer cookie crumbs for the base. The first batch was good but the second batch was amazing with the addition of 1 tsp salt to the crust.
As is, they are sweet and tasty but adding a salty base brings a whole other level.
Thanks for the tip!
I’m wondering if I can put the “toppings” on top of the graham crust and then pour condensed milk over the top top keep toppings together and not crumble off?
Yes, absolutely!
It never occurred to me to try different toppings in hello dollies/magic cookies like this, what a great idea. Imagine how slammin it would be to do white choc and PB chips and maybe some crushed honey roasted peanuts. Ughhhh need to go buy some Graham crackers Pronto! Thanks for the recipe I’m excited to try these.
Haha they’re the best.
hi! would you halve everything to make in an 8×8 pan? thank you!
Yes, I would halve everything!
I’ve made this recipe twice. Once for treats at my kiddos birthday party. The colors went perfect with the theme as it was MONSTERS 🙂
Thanks!
This one is really good my kids love it a lot and thankful about what I made for them, the best part is they want some more of this…That is why I thank you for posting your recipes and I also like you in my facebook.
Thanks!
I can’t wait to make these for my kids and myself. lol 😛
@Edith,
The buttery crust I was referring to was the one in this recipe and the traditional Magic Cookie Bars for a 9×13 pan.
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup salted butter
Is that what you were asking?
These look fantastic! I’m not much of a baker and do not have a graham crust recipe. Do you mind posting it?
Thank you, I’m going to make these this week!
These were amazing! I made them for a potluck at work, and everyone wanted the recipe. Will make again for sure!
@Tina Bull,
Shoot. I don’t know how SPAM gets ahold of my links. Here’s the recipe:

Hello! And good day! I am trying to locate the Chocolate Eclair Cake recipe that was posted on Pinterest. The one without the graham crackers. When I click on the link it takes me to an EBay high heel page. Lol! I soooo need that recipe! Thanks if you can get it to repost with a working link.
🙂 Tina
Can’t wait for the batch I just made to cool! They were so easy to make.
@SusanP,
Oh shoot! The only thing I can think of is that every oven cooks slightly hotter or cooler. Maybe turn it down to 325 degrees and for less time…about 20 minutes.
I tried the recipe tonight and have some questions. I baked them at 350 for about 22 minutes. They seemed to be “boiling” if that makes any sense. Also the coloring on the M&M’s is melting off and bleeding into each other. I’m sure they will still taste yummy but they don’t look nearly as pretty as yours :-/ Everything is in a melted puddle on top. Any suggestions?
after reading this post, I am realizing now that you must live in my region! I’m a NOLA gal- and have dealt with Katrina, Rita, Gustav and Isaac now too!
Glad to hear you did ok during the storm!
I’ve never heard of magic cookies. I would love the recipe 🙂

These look awesome. So I had no idea you had a major food blog with amazing food photography with sponsors and everything. Awesome! I just randomly found this site and I guess it means I’ll be coming back for all these great recipes.

What a cool pic! I haven’t had Magic Bars is years and this version looks fun! PS My Mom was out of power for almost two weeks with Rita…. I don’t know how she survived.
These look perfect for a halloween party!
We’d love for you to add this or any other great food photo to our Photo Friday blog hop!
Cheers!
Wow this is a diet busting dessert! It looks very creative and I can’t wait to try this fun recipe at home! thanks again Christy 🙂

@Ashley,
Oh my gosh. It’s Magic. I’ve had 8 hours of sleep total in the last 2 days. I guess it’s showing.
My mouth is watering. You never fail to come up with the best stuff. Thanks for sharing! So glad you guys made it through the storm okay!
I’ve never tried with candies. You give me the will to try 😉
Good to hear that the storms did not cause any major problems for your family. These bars will be much loved by my grown children, they love the original recipe and this one sounds even better. I am wondering how some broken pretzels would taste in these bars. I might try it.
I am so glad you guys are safe! You know, it is very amazing all of the things you learn when you move somewhere so different than where you came from. It is so empowering when you realize that you have learned so many new things and even become “seasoned!” Happy for you all and I can relate!! 🙂 Oh- and those bars look UH-MAZING!! Have a great weekend!
Ohhh, your bars look amazing!!!!!!!1 Yum!
Oh yummy! And so easy as well! I love making ‘cookies’ in a 9×13 pan – it takes so much less time! I do this frequently with oatmeal raisin cookies.
So is it Magic or Majic?
These look so good…and what a crazy first pic love the Magic! Glad to hear the hurricane fizzled I couldn’t imagine.
