BAKED BEANS
We’ve been in sunny Florida for 12 years now. Every couple of years there’s a mass exodus of what seems like all of our friends who move away. It’s a punch to the stomach every time.
Because no one lives by family out here, your friends are your family here. We celebrate holidays, help raise each other’s children, and really are there for each other when you think you’re going insane. So far, it looks like this summer proves to be another mass exodus. Ugh.
Why does everyone move away? Most people are enthralled with the idea of Miami. Sun, beach, attractions…yep, it’s all here. And we definitely enjoy that part of it.
I’ve realized over the years that the hard part about living here for my friends has been: (1) they have no family support; (2) people are rude down here; (3) although the beach is fun, they rarely ever go; and (4) the commute is brutal to and from any job (leaving mom’s and kids to fend for themselves).
One of our good friends just came back to visit and we had a BBQ to celebrate. I brought these Hawaiian Baked Beans which are a sweet and salty side perfect for luaus and get togethers.
Of course I already have the Best Baked Beans on here which are super hearty and always a hit. I also have Heidi’s Baked Beans from,…you guessed it, one of my friends who moved away. You can’t go wrong with any of these, honestly.

I Love all your recipes, thank you for sharing so many delicious recipes 😋❣️
Thank you!
can this be mixed ahead the night before?
Sure!
Do you think you could make this ahead of time and put it in a crock pot to take to a potluck?
Yes, absolutely!
Great recipe we will have bean with pineapple and ham on the 4th of July 2022 thank you
Awesome!
Your ‘Recipe Notes’ say that you added a can of beans and pineapple tidbits and reduced sugar, slightly. So is this change already reflected in your Ingredients list (4can beans, 2 cans pineapple)?
Yes, the recipe already reflects those changes.
So delicious! I made it for my significant other and I and he loved them :). Cant way to make them again!
Thank you!
Can pork and beans be used or does it have to be Great Northern beans?
I haven’t tried with pork and beans.
I made these exact for a Luau Party over the weekend. They were so delicious!! I will make again for our Luau parties. Those who tried them said they really liked them. My husband who isnt really one to compliment anything sweet said they were really delicious! Two of my sisters absolutely loved them. Thank you for sharing this recipe!
So glad you liked them!
Can I use pork and beans? Or does it have to be Great Northern beans?
Can this be made in a crockpot? If so, what adjustments have to be made?
I haven’t made it in a crockpot but I would do it on low for 4 hours.
I savour, lead to I discovered just what I used to be looking for.
You’ve ended my 4 day lengthy hunt! God Bless you man. Have a
great day. Bye
I am pleased that I found this web site, just the right information that I was searching for!
Lovely just what I was searching for. Thanks to the author for taking his clock time
on this one.
There is noticeably a bunch to identify about this.
I suppose you made some good points in features also.
It is a little hard to tell whether it is 1/2 lb or meant to be 1 1/5 lb of cubed ham? Thanks can’t wait to make these for the 4th of July this year!
Sorry if that’s confusing. It’s 1/2 lb or 8 ounces.
I made this recipe for my grandmother’s 80th Surprise Luau. I used canned beans that already had the brown sugar in it. They were so good that I didn’t have any left to take home, nor did I get some during the party cause it disappeared so fast. Lucky for me I got sample it while cooking:)
So good to hear!
Hawaii has the highest rate of Spam consumption in America so shouldn’t you use Spam instead of ham?
Yes, if you like SPAM you definitely could.
Can this recipe be done with pinto or another type of canned bean?
Oh yes of course!
These sound so good! We’re Floridians too – been here most of my life, so I totally get what you mean.
It’s rough right?!
I hate when everyone moves away!! We just had that happen to us last year. Such a bummer. Are people rude in Miami?? I never would have guessed. I was just talking with my brother about that yesterday, I said, people are the same wherever you go! And he said, nope not in Boston. lol! Hoping more fun families move in soon.
Haha. Yes. It’s one of the first things you will ever notice when you come here. Rude, annoyed, irritated.
