Scream Cheese Brownies
Scream Cheese Brownies – a festive Halloween treat that makes any Halloween party spooky!
SCREAM CHEESE BROWNIES
These are an easy Halloween treat…brownies with a cream cheese layer. Normally you are supposed to put chocolate frosting on top but I wanted the Halloween colors to show so I added a little bit more sweetness to the brownies to make up for it.
These can easily be adapted for Christmas or any other holiday colors. Betty Crocker has a version of this recipe here but this version came from one of my readers Annie. Thank you Annie…I had one for breakfast!
Swirl the batter with a knife…

Scream Cheese Brownies
Scream cheese brownies are a great way to transform your regular brownies into a Halloween treat.
Ingredients
- 1 brownie mix with ingredients required in mix, I like Betty Crocker's Triple Chunk Supreme or use half of this homemade brownie recipe
Cream cheese layer:
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 5 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 tablespoons flour
- orange food coloring, optional
Instructions
- Mix by hand your favorite brownie mix. Spread ½ of the brownie mixture in 9x13 inch pan sprayed with cooking spray. Mix cream cheese, butter, and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, vanilla, and flour and mix well. Add orange food coloring to desired color. Spread cream cheese mixture on top. Drop remaining brownie batter on top and pull a knife through. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Frost with chocolate icing when cool if desired.
Really good however didn’t have orange food coloring so we used purple. They weren’t as pretty as the orange but still very yummy.
would this recipe work as cupcakes as well?
Once I try them, I’ll give a rating. They look great!
It’s a brownie so it will be more dense. I don’t know. Maybe it will work.
This turned out so good! So good information for making a cup cake, I’ll need to use your tips 😉 this one looks amazing…
Look at Mom’s Got Ink on Facebook. She stole your photo and gave No credit.
I’ll check it out.
Should I be use a family size box of brownie mix? For example, Betty Crocker Fudge Brownies, 13×9 family size? Is that a big enough box?
Yes, that is perfect.
Those would also be great for a kids “Tiger party.”
2NdTGj I think this is a real great post. Want more.
Just made these for an office Halloween feast and they are delicious and festive! Thank you!!!
Made these yesterday and they were a huge hit! I reduced the sugar to 1/3c and they still tasted great. Thanks for the recipe!
I would say if you want to have more orange showing through, a fudgy brownie mix works better since it’s a bit more difficult to spread so it doesn’t take over the cream cheese layer as much.
Looks fantastic! Thanks for sharing!
They just came out of the oven & smell great! My daughter “helped” by pouring extra vanilla in. We will have to wait until after church at coffee to try them.
I CANNOT wait to try these out for football season as Tiger brownies!
Do they need to be refrigerated afterwards because of the cream cheese or no?
I found this recipe on Pinterest MONTHS ago and I was saving it for football season since our mascot is a Tiger. We have a big game this weekend and I am sure these will be a hit!
Your blog is great! I’ve been trying to figure out an easy way to add a printer friendly option to my blog and I must admit that I was glad to find a easy way to set it up here.
Thanks again!
This is simply sweety yummy:)
I tried these today, they are wonderful and I made them green for St Patricks day, thanks for sharing!
Wow–great idea! I might add some mint flavoring to the cream cheese mixture–chocolate and mint is such a good combination!
hi! i posted a link to your blog today in my blog http://thexxlfiles.blogspot.com
i made these brownies today, but i swapped out the butter in the cream cheese mixture for pumpkin. yummy pumpkin flavor, less calories/fat, and natural orange color.
thanks for posting this! yum
I love these for Halloween…or any other holiday, just switching up the color of the cream cheese! You can’t go wrong with chocolate and cream cheese 🙂
Yumm! What a great halloween recipe. These look delicious.
I love these! And I love the idea of making them different colors for different holidays.
I love the name of these brownies and that orange color looks so cool mixed in with the dark of the brownies. If it wasn’t Halloween, it could easily be called tiger brownies.
