ORANGE CREAMSICLE COOKIES
Ahhh…summer is here. Do you remember those orange creamsicle popsicles as a kid? Well these taste just like them. Cookies with a hint of orange and creamy vanilla morsels.
The center of the cookie just melts in your mouth. Take some time out from doing your chores and make these instead. Don’t they just scream SUMMER!
You’ll need some orange zest for that orange flavor. I also add a little orange extract to the cookies to give them that extra pop of flavor.
I like to place some white chocolate chips on top so they look pretty.

Orange Creamsicle Cookies
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup butter, softened, (2 sticks)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon orange extract
- 2 tablespoons orange zest, (for me that was the zest of 2 oranges)
- 2 cups white chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream butter and sugars until light and creamy. Beat in egg, vanilla and orange extract until smooth. Gradually add flour mixture until combined. Stir in orange zest and white chocolate chips.
- Drop rounded tablespoons onto parchment lined cookie sheets. Do not flatten cookies; it will make them dry. Bake 8 - 10 minutes or until golden brown around edges. Do not overcook! Cookies will be plump. Cool for several minutes on cookie sheets before transferring to rack to cool completely. Store in airtight container.
These are so good! I didn’t have enough white chips so added semi sweet to make up the difference. Yum.

I can’t believe this recipe has such a low rating! I love these and I’ve been making this recipe for 12 years now, especially during the holiday season! My son asks for them for his birthdays and they’ve become a favorite in my home! We make the Dough, roll it into a cylinder and freeze it. Then we cut it in circles to bake whenever we want until they’re gone. I usually make two batches at once.

Any idea if this dough can be froze ahead? If not, how long will the cookies keep in a container?

I might be over thinking the recipe. Is it calling for 1 cup of butter plus 2 sticks? Or should the recipe read 1 cup (2 sticks) butter?
I’m pretty sure it should be 1 cup (2 sticks) butter.
I love these cookes and so does my husband. I was looking for a recipe for orange creamsicle cookes because I have a grandson that loves anything orange creamsicle. Your recipe was the one I found that didn’t require orange juice. I had everything else I needed, so I made them. After I mixed up the dough, it seemed very dry and/or thick. I couldn’t even stir in the zest and chips. So I added another egg, mixed it up and the problem was solved. I wondered when I was mixing them if 1 egg would be enough considering the amount of flour and sugars. Adding the extra egg worked for me. Thanks for publishing this recipe……we love the cookies and I’m sure our grandson will also!

Orange creamsicle cookies! Yield 2 dz? Is that correct? I made 2 dz but they are huge not small like yours! In addition, you say scoop teaspoon size but mine were much larger more like 2 tablespoons! Please clarify if I made them correctly?
Yes, you made them correctly. This was an old recipe and I’ve always made them bigger.

These are scrumptious!!! I love the texture of these cookies, I was thinking of the basic recipe but using chopped dried cherries and dark chocolate chips! What is your opinion on that? I am not much of a baker😕, but trying to help a friend out with wedding cookies!

These were a HUGE hit today aat my party. People were literally throwing their e-mails at me to share the recipe. I made a double batch, they were gone in less than 15 minutes. Do you think these would have enough orange flavor without the zest? I have everything to make these except an orange and would like to make these for a BBQ this weekend
Ahh. Hope I’m not too late. I definitely think the zest gives a lot of orange flavor and shouldn’t be left out for the true creamsicle flavor. Hope this helps.

Just found your wonderful website and great recipes. Would love to make the orange creamsicle cookies but cannot get fresh oranges. Live in the tropics where everything is seasonal and oranges are finished til next year. Even if could get, our oranges are normally green skins or very dull orange. I cannot even buy orange extract here so guess I can only dream of the cookies. If I ever find a nice orange or two, can I use bakers white chocolate cut in small bits, rather than chocolate chips?

Just made these tonight – absolutely YUM YUM YUM !!! I love the orange and white choc mix. The picture on Pinterest is what first caught my attention. They look super delicious. Mine were not quite as blump, chunky and textury looking as show in the picture. Instead mine have collapsed into more flat style cookies. What could I have done wrong ? Plan on remaking them tomorrow for a cookie exchange tomorrow night. Would love any advice.
Usually when cookies turn out flat it means the dough is too warm. Try chilling the dough to make them super plump.

Hi, I got this recipe on Pinterest. Had oranges, but no white choc chips. I had butter mixed with melted dark chocolate from a recipe for two ingredient frosting, found on Pinterest. Decided to try your recipe, exchanging the butter/choc mix for butter and white choc chips. The result is a chocolate cookie with a taste like the chocolate oranges my daughter loves at Christmas. Delicious. Thought that as I got this recipe from your website through Pinterest, if you haven’t yet tried it my way, you might come up with a pretty incredible version that would be perfect for Christmas or Valentine’s day. Its really that good!
I make these around Christmas but I add craisins. It is super yummy!

I must tell you that these cookies are in heavy rotation at my house this Summer! They have become a staple at our Friday night Bible Study/Get-togethers, too. Everyone that has tried them LOVES them. The orange zest is a revelation. Who knew such a simple ingredient could *make* a cookie?! I have a small scoop that I use and I “double scoop” each cookie and bake for precisely 9 minutes. They come out perfect every time. Thank you so much for this recipe!
