CANDY CANE SUGAR COOKIE BARS
My friend stopped by a few days ago with a whole platter of Christmas treats. If you want to make me happy, that is definitely the way. Making treats for my own neighbors and friends is a tradition I do every year. I’ve found that the sugar cookies are always popular and always the first to go.
As much as I love sugar cookies, I hate rolling those suckers out. These bars have little specks of white chocolate and peppermint candy cane kisses throughout and are topped with a cream cheese frosting.
HOW TO MAKE THESE
-
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a 9×13 baking dish with parchment paper.
-
For the bars: In a large bowl beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
-
Add the egg and vanilla and mix until combined.
-
In a separate bowl whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt until combined.
-
Slowly add the flour mixture to the egg mixture and mix until combined. Mixture will be thick. Mix in the chopped Hershey kisses.
-
Press dough into the baking dish and bake for 18-20 minutes or until edges begin to have a touch of golden brown. Do not overbake! Remove from oven and let the bars cool in the pan.
-
For the frosting: Beat the cream cheese and butter until fluffy. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla and beat until creamy. The mixture may seem dry at first but will become creamy after being beat for a while. Add a tablespoon of milk at a time until the frosting reaches the consistency you desire. Add a few drops of red food coloring and mix well. Frost cooled bars. Sprinkle with additional chopped candy cane kisses. Let set and cut into bars.
I’m sure finding a helper to unwrap all of those kisses won’t be a problem.

Could these be doubled and baked in a 12×18″ sheet pan?
Can these be frozen?
Yes!
Approximately how many do you get from one 9×13 pan?
About 18-24 depending how big you cut them.
These are delicious! I used Andes white chocolate peppermint pieces instead because the kisses were hard to chop.
These look amazing (:
Hi,
I love all your recipes but I can’t print any of them off. Is there an answer for this. Thank you and hoping to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Brenda
Brenda,
What browser are you using? I use a ziplist plugin and although I can print from Internet Explorer I’ve had users that can’t. You can try using Firefox or another browser. Sorry!
hi, I’d love to make these more than just at Christmas. any ideas for a substitute for the candy cane kisses? thanks!
You can leave it out and just frost them. Or you could use any kind of chip, maybe white chocolate chips?
I made these for a Christmas gathering and they were awesome, they were so addicting and I loved them with coffee the next morning.
Ooh! Great to hear!
I made the Candy Cane Kiss Sugar Cookie Bars and they were delicious! Everyone really liked them.
Look yummy, will be making tonight. Do they need to be put in fridge with cream cheese frosting, or are they ok at room temp?
I stored mine at room temperature. I’ve heard that if there’s sugar in the frosting it acts as a preserver and can be left at room temp.
I also love sugar cookies but hate rolling them out! Will have to try this asap!
I am eager to try these. Do you think they would freeze ok (minus the frosting)? I would like to get some baking done ahead of time. Thanks!
Sugar cookie bars freeze great!!
Lovely! The peppermint kisses are my favorite!
These are so fun and festive! I love the peppermint kisses too, yum! And I’m definitely in for a bar over rolling out all the cookies 🙂
Some days I just don’t want to roll out the sugar cookies…this looks like the way to go for sure! I love all the candy cane kisses in these! They look amazing!
So fun and festive! Great way to enjoy sugar cookies without going through all the work of rolling them out!
