HOW TO MAKE CROCKPOT ITALIAN CHICKEN
INSTANT POT INSTRUCTIONS
- Place chicken in a Instant Pot and pour the cream of chicken soup on top. Sprinkle dry Italian dressing mix on top. Top with block of cream cheese and pour in chicken broth. Make sure lid is in locked position and the knob is in the sealing position.
- Cook on manual, poultry, or meat setting for 15 minutes. Let the Instant Pot natural release or quick release. Once chicken is done you can remove it and shred chicken with two forks or with a mixer. Stir the sauce in the crockpot until the cream cheese is fully combined and then stir in the chicken. If you feel the sauce is too thick you can thin it to your preferred consistency with a little more chicken broth or milk. Serve over pasta or rice. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese if desired.
STOVE TOP INSTRUCTIONS
- Cook chicken in a pot with some olive oil until no longer pink. Remove from pot and shred with two forks or a mixer.
- In the pot, heat the cream of chicken soup, Italian dressing, and cream cheese over medium heat until creamy. Add milk or chicken broth to desired consistency. Stir in shredded chicken.
- Serve over pasta, rice, or egg noodles.

Do you have to cook the pasta separately or can you put it in the crock pot as well?
You cook the pasta separately!
One of our favorite dishes! It’s a great recipe we have recommended to many and they all have loved it. We personally do 2 packets of zesty Italian for a bolder flavor & allow the cream cheese to soften then mix the soup, cream cheese, & zesty Italian in a bowl with a hand mixer then put it in the crock pot and coat all the chicken chunks. Also, we don’t add in the broth until the very end because sometimes especially if putting it on high the sauce becomes a bit thinner so depending on the consistency we want depends how much broth we add so it’s hard to determine that until the end. All preference though, one of the beauties of cooking you kind of start learning your own thing as you go along!
Great tips. Thank you!
Cream cheese? Soup? Ugh. Not Italian in my book.
Yes, not ever claimed to be authentic
This always comes out perfect and it’s one of my favorite meals! I’m shocked how many rude comments there are on here😳 don’t let those kind of people stop you from posting your recipes! They’re soooo good!❤️
haha thx!
While cooking this in the instant pot I keep getting the Burn notification, which then turns the instant pot off. Any ideas on what I can do?
I would add 1/2 cup more broth
We Love This Recipe!
Would like to know the calorie per cup though.?
It took so long to wade thru all your yacking I gave up finding the recipe!! Cut to the chase for hell’s sake!
There’s a jump to recipe button at the top of every recipe.
I made this for last night’s dinner only adding a pinch of red pepper flakes to the crock pot method. It was so very well liked, it earned an immediate spot in our family favorite recipes!
Could you use frozen chicken breasts, if you don’t have time to thaw them out?
Sure!
I always appreciate online recipes but this is not my favorite and I probably wouldn’t make it again. The sauce definitely taste like straight up cream cheese. I ended up adding another full can of chicken broth just so it would taste less like a block of cream cheese on top of spaghetti. Any basic Pasta Carbonara recipe is fairly easy to make & only about 20 minutes to prepare–I’ll just stick with that next time I am craving a creamy pasta dish.
I’m sorry you didn’t like it. Many others love it!
I love this recipe! It’s so delicious and extremely quick and easy to make. My family gives it 5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
So happy to hear that!
Delicious, easy, simple. Thank you!
So glad you liked it!
Can you taste the cream cheese?
Yes, you definitely can taste it.
Hi, I tried the crockpot Italian Chicken using the Insta Pot instructions. I had to tweak your directions just a bit. It was necessary to pour the chicken broth in first and to increase the amount to 1 cup, then layer the chicken after I had cut the chicken into long strips, then sprinkle on the Zesty Italian Dressing mix, cream of chicken soup and cream cheese. The chicken was delicious, not a bite left after dinner.
I use your recipes all the time. Thanks so much for helping my family stay well fed.
Was it too runny with one cup of liquid?
Not at all. It was just fine.
Does the chicken have be thawed or can I put it in frozen?
I like it better thawed but you can add it in frozen.
Im sure its just me but i was not fond of this. It tasted like it was lacking something so i put a small splash of lea & perrin in it. Helped a little but not much. Wont make this again.
could anyone advise on how to completely incorporate the cream cheese? i used a softened 8 oz “brick” of cream cheese and once the chicken was cooked there were small chunks of cream cheese left in the mix. i used 2 cans of soup, and followed the instructions to stir the cream cheese and soup together separately on low heat before adding to the crockpot. thanks! otherwise this meal certainly is tasty and there seem to be so many ways to customize or switch it up 🙂
Keep stirring. If you let it get warm enough it will melt into it.
Could this be done in the Instant Pot? Would save some time….. I’ve made this recipe for years in the crocpot and we LOVE it! Curious what you would do differently for in the Instant Pot. Thanks!
I’m not sure. I’m an instapot newbie. I would cook the chicken with the seasonings and then sautee setting the other ingredients in.
If you want a yummy variation you should try this with mashed potatoes! I can’t find my Italian chicken recipe (wanting to make it tomorrow) and found your site – thanks so much!

Hi, I use this recipe with pork chops and use cream of onion soup and I use cream of onion when I make it with chicken as well. LOVE it! I all so warm up the soup and cram cheese in the microwave and whisk it till smooth before pouring it over the chicken or pork chops. We love this with egg noodles. Just my little two cents…. Happy cooking everyone.
Thank you!
Can you use already seasoned Italian chicken breast and leave the rest the same??
The seasoning really adds a lot to the cream sauce so I think it wouldn’t be quite the same.
I tried this recipe tonight, and it was fantastic! My husband loved it and requested I make it again. Instead of rice or pasta, I served it over biscuits. It was delicious, next time I am going to try rice!
Sounds delicious.
Thank You for the recipe! I always have to double this recipe (kids of all ages love this recipe)! I have tried it with cream of mushroom but not the same with the flavor when using cream of chicken. Chicken i always put extra in. I do use 3 packets of the zesty italian as i do double the recipe. Lastly, I add 2 pounds of sliced baby portabella mushrooms ( yes you read the mushrooms right) added to top. Extra wide egg noodles are used as my eaters say the rice is not enough. When people don’t like it thick or heavy, i will put some in a pan and thin it with milk on hand! I hope this helps your viewers. Thanks again for the recipe
Thank you for your feedback!
Hi, so I am definitely finding this recipe late but it looks delicious. My crock pot is set for 4 hours high and low is 8 hours. Would you cook 4hrs high or just put on 8 hours low and take out at 4 hours?
It’s really forgiving. I would just put it on at 4-6 hours on low and take it out early.
How could I freeze this for my sister in law (they just had twins)?
I would probably cook it and then freeze it either in a gallon freeze bag and then she could just thaw and throw it in a pot or slowcooker. Or you could cook the chicken sauce and layer it over rice in a baking dish (disposable) then freeze.
this would be perfect for leftover cream of chicken soup. i usually make it and put it over rice, the left overs could go in this! have a good italian recipe? no dressing mixes here in germany
This one looks good! http://www.food.com/recipe/italian-dressing-seasoning-dry-mix-63812
