FRENCH TOAST ROLL-UPS
Mother’s Day can not come soon enough. If you’re pampering the mom in your life this weekend, fix her these French Toast Roll-Ups. Of course you could make regular French toast but why not switch it up with these. They look gourmet and melt in your mouth.
I ate 7 out of the 8 of them just to make sure.
And if you love these, you’ll love this Lemon Blueberry Crescent Ring and this Blueberry Croissant Puff.
HOW TO MAKE FRENCH TOAST ROLL-UPS
Just take regular soft white bread and cut the crusts off.
Using a rolling pin, flatten the pieces out.
Place whatever filling you like inside towards the end of the piece of bread. I love softened cream cheese topped with diced strawberries.
Nutella with strawberries is really good too.
Roll those babies up.
Dip them in an egg/mixture just like you would regular French toast.
As soon as you’ve browned them in a skillet roll them in some cinnamon/sugar.
Breakfast is served! This French Toast is one of my favorite breakfast treats.
HOW TO MAKE FRENCH TOAST ROLL-UPS
-
Cut the crust from each slice of bread and flatten it out with a rolling pin.
-
Place about 1-2 teaspoons of your chosen filling 1 inch from one end of the bread in a strip. Roll the bread up tightly and repeat with the remaining pieces of bread. I really like cream cheese with diced strawberries as one combination and Nutella with diced strawberries as another combination.
-
In a shallow bowl whisk the eggs and milk until well combined.
-
In a separate shallow bowl mix the sugar with the cinnamon.
-
Heat a skillet set over medium heat and melt a tablespoon of butter.
-
Dip each bread roll in the egg mixture coating well and then place them in the pan seam side down. Cook in batches until golden brown, turning them to cook and brown on all sides, about 2 minutes per side. Add butter to the pan as needed.
-
Add cooked rolls immediately from the pan to the cinnamon sugar and roll until completely covered in sugar. You can serve with syrup for dipping but I think they’re perfectly good all by themselves.

Great idea! The kids are going to go crazy over these and I think they’ll taste pretty good too. I can’t wait to give these a try in the morning.
We make something similar called Cinnamon Snails. We prep the bread like you do, speak cream cheese then roll up the slices and cut them into thirds. Then just roll in butter and cinnamon sugar mixture and bake 350 for 10-12 minutes. They are delicious and the kids love making them. I’ll definitely be trying your version soon!
Ooh! I like your version!
I tried these out and loved them!! I didn’t have any milk so I used some vanilla coffee creamer and it tasted fantastic, thanks for this recipe!
You’re welcome!
genius
Wow this is great. Gave my E-Mail and looking forward to hearing about more. Thank you.
Do these need to be eaten straight away or can they be served cold at morning tea time?
I definitely think they would be best warm but I’ve never tried them cold.
I’ve had them at room temperature and they’re still delicious 🙂
I love breakfast food anytime of the day! This recipe looks amazing! Can’t wait to try it!!
These are so good! I am a very far cry from a domestic goddess (even my sponge cakes turn out flat) but even i found these really easy and they taste so good, using them to impress the family now!
yumm ommg
oh!!! i already try this but i use sweet ham and then cheese, instead of strawberry, nutella and cream cheese… and every time i put on the table on an occasion its always the first one to be empty plated……
Next Saturday breakfast idea! You rock my socks!!
From what I read your recipe is a big hit 🙂
Can egg be replaced with something similar?
Answer to my own question:
1 TBS of ground flax and 3 TBS of water equal 1 egg.
Mix well and let it sit for 5 minutes – beat occassionally with fork or spoon.
Brush bread with mixture.
Egg can be omitted. Dip in melted butter or milk. The result is
the same.
Looks so good, I’m going to try this.
I made these the other night and me and my daughters absolutely loved them they were sooooo good
omg looks soo good!! I can’t wait to try these this weekend. Thanks
I made these and they came out Awesome!
This recipe was absolutely a winner. Loved how incredibly easy it was to make and how the ingredients were all items that I personally have in my kitchen. I made these for a church breakfast — I think they were even better because they had time to rest as I toted them over to the church in an 8 x 8 pan (just for convenience) and they sat in the sauce for a good 20 minutes before consumption, as a result. Thank you for sharing!
Any ideas in how to make these without using the egg to dip them in? I want to try them because my oldest son will love them but my youngest has an egg allergy.
The egg just adds extra binding. I would still try it without the egg.
sooo delicious! only problem was that when i took them off of the pan, the cinnamon sugar didnt stick very well. but besides that they were amazing!!
Where did u get the mini rolling pin? I have never seen
Them before but it looks like a good thing to have!
It’s awesome. It’s from pampered chef.
Mine definitely did not turn out as amazing as they do in the above pictures, but they were very yummy and the whole family loved them! The favourite flavour was banana and chocolate (didn’t use nutella as I am allergic).
This recipe looks great!!! How many should I cook for 5 adults? Can you give me a clue? hahaha..
For 5 adults I would cook about 4 each. That’s just me though.
I just made these and they were a lot harder than they look…… They tasted amazing but ya…. harder than they look for sure
This was such a lovely Idea. My kids would love this 🙂
These are great! Just wanted to know if anyone has made them the night before, cooked and taken them to a breakfast potluck. I’m going to try it for tomorrow,. I am going to reheat them in the oven in the morning and then put them in a container to keep warm.
Can you tell us how was it cooking them the night before?
I saw this on Pinterest and it made my mouth water! I pinned it to my recipes to try board and it is on the short list…ready to be moved to Tried It, Liked it!
do you think I could use chocolate frosting instead of nutella? Only I know nutella is pretty expensive and I’m too lazy to melt chocolate.
Yes, it would work great!
These are great! I rolled mine in brown sugar and cinnamon after the egg wash and then browned them. I used a maple butter (cross between maple syrup and butter but looks like syrup) as a drizzle! The second time was with bananas with nutella 🙂
Thanks for this
I’m gluten free… Do you think this would work with gluten free bread?
They look SO delicious!!!
Tanya,
Unfortunately I don’t know much about gluten free bread. I would think it would work!
Gluten free bread is usually tough. Rather than roll the bread, try my way of cutting each slice in half or triangles, then spread filling on one and top with other. Then just roll on cinnamon sugar as before.
I’m thinking…PB&J?
Yes. Totally! That would be awesome.
Just made these for 10 people! They all loved it. Will be making these again. Thank you for posting this. Fun fun.
Wish I could have been the 11th! Haha
with the cinnamon do I just do sugar instead?? as we not cinnamon taste here in my house
Thank you
Sure! You could do just sugar.
It’s so easy & beautiful & looking testy.
These look super yummy but I really hate when a food blog article opens with news about a stomach bug or food poisoning. Instant turn off. Ughh.
Yes I totally agree, but this is my life here and unfortunately includes the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Yes, it is your life! I am thankful for the post/recipe..others need to lighten up. There is ALWAYS a Negative Nelly on here..too bad…
Thanks for the support.
Made these this morning for my 1 yr old! She loved them.. Had to keep the husband away so she could eat!
These look so delicious and easy to make !!
I am
Surely making them tomorrow !!!
OMG i will do this this evening for my parents <3
P.S. Marshmallow fluff and nutellella would also be great. Or crm. cheese and blueberries etc. so many diff. fillings to use. Have fun with these snacks on the gooooooo.
WHAT A LOAF OF BREAD CAN DO OMG So many variations to this recipe and quick summer snacks etc. Pot Lucks or whatever. Ill be making these on Sun. AM for sure. Never thought to do anything like this. TKS to all your awesome recipes.
You’re welcome!
I was out of bread, so I decided to try this with flour tortillas! I used cool whip and strawberry preserves and it was delicious! The tortillas were easy to roll and no rolling pin necessary!
We are snowed/iced in here in Atlanta today so I wanted an extra special breakfast for my family. I found this on Pinterest and had all the ingredients on hand. These were delicious! I added a splash of vanilla to the egg mixture, but followed your pictures and instructions for the rest of recipe. Yummy! Thanks for posting! I will be making this again soon.
I did this and they just fell apart and were soggy. I really did just dip them and then put them on the griddle, but I don’t think the soft white bread works very well. How did you do it that they didn’t fall apart? Were they still soggy in the center? I hate when french toast isn’t cooked all the way through.
They weren’t soggy at all in the middle. That’s why you roll out the bread so that it’s flat and you don’t have a soggy center.
Thank you for his recipe. My son and I had so much fun making them, and they’re delicious!!!
Oh good to hear. Glad you guys had fun.
I can use whole wheat bread right? 🙂
Of course!
You can also tried the so-called “Pizza Roll”. It’s just the same thing… instead of strawberry, you can replace it with sliced bell pepper, onion and cheese. Dip it on egg and roll them on bread crumbs. Then deep fry on oil. It’s really delicioso!
Ooh yum. That sounds good.
What can I use instead of eggs? My niece has an egg allergy.
You could use just milk with no egg or butter and it should work.
Thanks so much for this tip, we are vegan and was wondering how I could switch this up 🙂
I’ve been dipping them in melted butter, rather than the milk and egg mixture and baking them in the oven. It works great.
Made these this morning for my family and they loved them. Huge hit!
They are so good right?
Made these at the American Legion this morning using cream cheese and orange marmalade….SO, so good!!
These are so phenomenal. I made them on Christmas morning, and I literally cried they were so good. [that may have been the pregnancy hormones talking, but still]. BIG hit in our house. Dubbed: the best breakfast I’ve ever made!! 🙂
ps – I used just cream cheese and strawberries. I was surprised how sweet it was with so little sugar. Hubs can’t wait for me to make them with fresh peaches this summer. Yum!
Ooh fresh peaches would be good.
Made these this morning. Delicious! Only used on egg and 1.5 tbsp milk and still had leftovers (and leftover cinnamon sugar). I didn’t want to waste tye bread crusts, so I used some of them to soak up the remaining egg mixture, fried them up and rolled them in the leftover sugar. Yummo!
I usually use one egg per slice. But my slices are bigger than usual because I cut them thick. I use sourdough or wheat-based breads. If you find that your slice is too soft, just toast them before dipping into the mix. Then dip, and toast the second time. This creates a thicker base.
These make me wish I wasn’t gluten free…yum!
I made some with cream cheese and ham/salami, and they were also fantastic. (I didn’t put vanilla in the egg mixture but I still put a tiny sprinkle of cinnamon sugar on the top.) This was a total hit.
Wow, these were incredible! Absolutely delicious! This was a nice change from the traditional breakfasts we make on the weekends, and it was so easy! Next on the list is the Banana Stuffed French Toast…..Thank you for the awesome recipes!
Today was my first attempt at making this and I only have one question, how do you keep it from falling apart?
Make sure you keep the rolls seam side down first when you cook them. That should help.
These are amazing! I filled them with homemade apple sauce and they tasted heavenly! Great recipe!!!!! 😀
Do you think these will freeze well? I would love to make a bunch and pull out breakfast for the kids
Yes, I think they would freeze great!
Would you freeze them before cooking or after?
I would probably bake them before and just heat them up either in the oven for crispy outsides.
can you make these the night before and cook them in the morning?
Yes, absolutely!
What is best way to keep them overnight if you make ahead of time? Thanks.
OMG they look like CHURROS! But with fill-ins yummyyy!
great idea for a breakfast finger food for babies and toddlers
Good recipes, put me on your mailing list. Thank you
yum yum
I actually bake them in oven on parchment paper. It’s easier and faster! Wow, guess
I’m adding strawberries now! Yum!!!
And the Nutella??!! Great idea!
My inlaws freak out when I make them!
Now they really will!
Thx 🙂
What temp do you bake them at and for how long?
I haven’t tried baking them. They are cooked on the stove. If I were to try to bake them I would do it at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.
oh my goodness. I love french toast so much. But french toast rolled up strawberries and nutella in the middle? These look so divine!
Oh my goodness, these are genius! Can’t wait to try!
I’m excited to try these, thanks for the recipe!
wow! what a great idea!
I must try those!!
Ok…these look like the most amazing things ever…I am going to stop everything and go make them now..You rock, Christy!!! To everyone out there have a blessed Memorial Day!! GOD Bless every American soldier, past and present. Without them we wouldn’t be living this life.
Holy batman these were amazing! I smashed a banana and added it with the softened cream cheese and added strawberries…my mouth waters just thinking of them! Thanks for such an awesome idea! Love that its super easy and delish!
I made these on Mother’s Day. I added apricot preserves to cream cheese. About 4 oz cream cheese and approximately 1/4 cup preserves. They were AWESOME!
Do you think these would cook well in the oven, opposed to a pan? I am planning on cooking a lot of these, but I want them to all be done at the same time! What do you think?
Yes, I do think they would cook well in the oven too. I would think to bake at 350 for about 10-12 minutes but I would have to test it to figure out the exact bake time.
Hey, they look amazing..instead of egg what we can use??? Pls can you share
Hmm. You could use just milk it just won’t have that egg flavor.
Cinnamon sugar before baking them, after baking them or half way through???
You roll them in the cinnamon sugar after they are cooked.
Love the idea..so doing it.
Oh these look like an awesome take on plain, boring French toast. Maybe I will just make these for myself this weekend!
They look so gorgeous!
Such a fun breakfast treat!
Sorry about the, um, fun laundry you had, but these looks FANTASTIC! And every easy. Yum!
Oh sweet mother of pearl, these need to happen Sunday morning!!
Oh my gosh when I first seen the picture of these I though they would be so hard to make!! I was so wrong!! I am totally making these for my Mom on Sunday 🙂
PS. I am always amazed at how quickly my husband recovers from an illness when he has a tee time or other manly adventure planned!!
I am making these for Mother’s Day this weekend! Thanks for the awesome recipe.
These are so fun!! LOVE this idea!
Oh my heavens, those look AMAZING!!!! Pinning!
These are so fun and easy for kids to do to! I love it.
