Individual Seven-Layer Dips
Individual Seven-Layer Dips are individually portioned Mexican appetizer dips perfect for parties, BBQs, potlucks, and get togethers. These are definitely a memorable appetizer that will have people raving. Unlike the traditional 7-layer bean dip, there’s no double dipping here!

Individual Seven-Layer Dips
We keep it pretty minimal when it comes to toys for our kids on Christmas but yet somehow I feel like there’s STUFF everywhere! Anyone else feel this way?
We’re swimming in Legos over here and just when I think I’ve cleaned up the last of them, I’ll step on one or one of my boys will drop their ships and Lego pieces go flying everywhere.
I think my husband spent 6 straight hours on Christmas helping them build Legos.
Seven layer dip is one of my favorites. But after a few people have dipped (hopefully not double-dipped), it starts to look like mush.
All the pretty layers turn into an unidentifiable, unappetizing pile.
My sister told me about the idea of individual seven layer dips as a party idea.
The great thing about seven layer dip is that you can adjust it to your personal tastes.
Now, you could make these in glass tumblers too, but we are pretty casual over here so plastic tumblers are the way we roll.
These would be great for watching a football game or for a New Year’s party.

Individual Seven-Layer Dips
Ingredients
- 1 (16 ounce) can refried beans
- 1 (1 ounce) package taco seasoning
- 1 cup guacamole or make homemade guacamole
- 1 (8 ounce) container sour cream
- 1 cup chunky salsa or pico de gallo; or make homemade pico de gallo
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
- 2 Roma tomatoes, , diced
- 1/2 bunch of green onions, , sliced
- 1 (2.25 ounce) can sliced olives, drained
- 8 (9 ounce) plastic tumblers
- tortilla chips
Instructions
- In a small bowl mix taco seasoning with refried beans. Some people prefer to mix their taco seasoning with the sour cream layer but I wanted a bright white layer so I did it with the beans.
Here's how the layers are assembled:
- Layer 1: beans and taco seasoning; Layer 2: sour cream; Layer 3: guacamole; Layer 4: salsa or pico de gallo; Layer 5: cheese; Layer 6: tomatoes; Layer 7: green onions and olives
- In each plastic glass, layer about 2 Tablespoons of the beans, followed by 2 Tablespoons of sour cream, 2 Tablespoons of guacamole, 2 Tablespoons of salsa or pico de gallo, and 2 Tablespoons of cheese. Make sure you drain your salsa or pico to get the excess liquid out before you pour it on. Then top with about 1-2 teaspoons of tomatoes, olives, and green onion (If making ahead of time, wait to add these toppings until shortly before serving).
- Garnish with one tortilla chip. Store in the refrigerator until serving and serve with chips. Makes around 8 individual dips.

Je me permets d’écrire ce petit com simplement pour congratuler son auteur
i tried it and it tasted delish, but did NOT look as cute as yours … mine was pretty messy. what’s your secret??
Like I said in the tips I think it really helps to use ziplock bags for the fillings. Then you can just pipe it in.
Great info. Lucky me I discovered your website by chance
(stumbleupon). I’ve book marked it for later!
I use your Ham & Cheese Sliders for EVERYTHING but was asked to bring a dip to a Superbowl party this weekend. Imagine my surprise when I found this cool recipe on Pinterest and it led me to your site. Thank you for always having amazing (and also easy!) recipes!
You’re welcome. The buffalo chicken dip on the site is good too!
Love this! Want to use for a pre-superbowl party tomorrow. Do you cook the beans first with the taco seasoning? Or can you serve it straight out of the can?
Straight out of can is always how I do it. If we cooked the beans again would they be re- refried beans? Haha. Just kidding.
I love this website!! Happened on it when searching for 7 layer dip. The individual cups are a great idea. I had a previous recipe that mixed the sour cream with the taco seasoning as you mentioned–I like your idea of mixing it with the refried beans better. I’ll try it this Sunday for the Super Bowl. Go Seahawks!
Thanks Deb!
Hi! I have to bring a savory appetizer to a party and have been struggling since I want to bring something cold. I love this idea! I never buy refried beans and wondering what brand you use … do you have a preference or find them all to be pretty much the same? Thanks! I love your site — I’m sure I’ll be using many of your recipes.
Dee,
I actually don’t have a preference on these. They all taste good.
What a great idea…now I can double dip without recrimination!
I made these for a bridal shower Saturday and they were a tremendous hit!! I did however reverse the order of the guacamole and the sour cream by accident which turned out to be fine because there was 3 leftover and the guacamole did not turn brown in the fridge overnight and they tasted just as good as the day I made them.
Great recipe, Thank you for sharing!
I just found you on line. What a great idea!!! I love them all so far. 🙂
Would these be good to make the night before or should I wait for the day of event? Just wondering if it would spoil in the fridge the night before. Thanks. I look forward to making these 🙂
You could make these the night before but leave off the tomatoes, olives, and green onions. Add those the day of for best results.
You deserve 107 comments, Girl. This is so nice. The best thing why i’ll try it for my next party is it makes the guest feel special..when you give them in beautiful individual serving like that. It makes the staement that I care for you…you are not just one in the crowd. Repinning it . Dita.
Thanks Dita!
We tried these for a party and they were a terrific hit! We also did some regular tossed salad with veggies. Great Great Idea!!!
What a great idea!!! Pinned.
Hi, Just want to say thank you soooo much for this idea. We had our first bbq of 2013 and it went down a treat. Perfect for the appetizers while everyone’s ready but the food is still cooking. Loved by all, thanks ;D
Great for parties, I am a reuse queen and those little single serving, 1/2 cup size, pudding cups would be perfect for this! WOW
This is fantastic and such a fun idea for everyone! Thank you! Love your blog too 🙂
Thanks Brittany!
This is a great idea! You could even make an assemble your own layer dip bar with it!
So cute for a small Super Bowl Sunday party!
This is true genius!
thank you
Love little plates – can’t wait to try!
Love small plates – can’t wait to try these!
It’s really really fantastic!!! I am copying it right now!!!
Oh these look so good.
My kids would love them as a treat in their school lunches. I am wondering how long do these last in the fridge, a few days to maybe a week? Anyone know?
Thanks.
I would say just a day or two because of the tomato and guacamole.
Where did you find the tumblers? I have been looking everywhere!
These are actually just plastic tumblers I found at my grocery store. Target had them and so does party city.
If you have a cash and carry, they carry these in bulk at a great price!
How do you keep the sides from being so messy??
@Hillary,
Very carefully! If you had to mass produce these I would put each filling in a large Ziploc bag and snip off the corner, then pipe it in each cup.
LOVE IT!
I made these for a friend’s wedding recently, they turned out great and were very popular! I was wondering though, how did you get the nice, neat, separate layers ? Is there a trick to that ?
Moxiwize,
I just made sure that the outside of the layer looked nice since that’s what people see.
I imagine using a pasty bag for the beans and sour cream would create nice layers. Even a large, plastic gallon size bag with the corner cut out of it…
**PASTRY bag** 🙂
Great idea!
Thanks for this great idea!
FANTABULOUS idea…….
thanks
Texas Granny
What a GREAT idea — no double dipping party scoopers! Love it.
What a GREAT idea — no double dipping party scoopers! Love it.
I absolutely love this!!
I found your post from Pinterest, and made these for a party last night. They were a hit! I don’t actually like this dip myself, so was glad to be able to send leftover cups of dip home with my guests (along with a baggie of chips, since I don’t eat those either!).
These look delicious! I totally agree about the “mush” look when it’s all in one pan. I am using this recipe to get me through football season … 22 dips til Superbowl – you can read about it here! http://wp.me/p2hp9V-xq
Thanks for sharing!
These will be awesome to serve at the baby shower!!! the new mommy wants mexican food!!!!
Can’t wait to try this on weekend camping trip. 10 people + 10 kayaks = hunger! Looks mouthwatering! Thanks
Thank you for this idea. I just saw it on Pinterest and repined. I am planning a going out of town party for daughter and this would be perfect!
Love, love, love these. So clever and it takes out the mess of dips. I came by way of Providence Ltd, where she served it at a party for her mother.

I love it!! And it’s sorta cool that a post from … what? 5 months ago … can still be seen new and fresh thanks to social media. 🙂 I “tumbled” onto this picture from guess where.
well best part of this post is step on one or one of my boys will drop their ships and Lego pieces go flying everywhere dubai properties
Fabulous idea.. portion control and a solution for double dipping along with portability! Brilliant!
New to your blog, lots of fun can’t wait to check out more of your posts!~
Thanks for sharing! Making these for Super Bowl at home with family and I found your recipe at eighteen25.
What a brilliant idea. I’ve made 7 layer dip tons of times, but always in a casserole dish. How brilliant to make everyone their own cup/dish.
Great idea! Just featured this on our Fun Finds Friday…http://kitchenfunwithmy3sons.blogspot.com/2012/02/fun-finds-friday.html
I love this idea, although I would have to go back for another cup:) This is most fav dip ever!

My 14-year-old grandson has gotten into cooking. He called me to say he’d made a recipe from a cookbook I compiled a number of years back. It was called Mexican Heartburn, or as it is now known, Seven Layer Dip! When I saw your take on it, I had to send him your link! I love your site, and I’ve added it to my favorites. Thanks for sharing! ~Lucia Kaiser from Design by Lucia
This looks gorgeous (and delish) – and could easily be modified to be healthier (spoil sport, I know :D) – but it’s how we roll. Gonna HAVE to try this! Great idea!

These look great – came across your idea on Pinterest. Thanks!
These look so awesome. Is it just me or does everything look better served in little glass cups?!
super cute if you put it in margarita glasses. you can get them cheaply at a 99 cent store!
This is a wonderful idea for wedding receptions or any type of party!
I just have to link this one to my blog.
What a cute idea! Eliminates double dipping and perfect for Super Bowl!
I adore this idea for a Super Bowl party!
What a great idea! I will definitely be using this the next time I make 7-layer dip.
And about those Legos…there are some things that you NEVER forget, no matter how old your kids are…things like stepping barefooted on Legos.
Such a genius idea!
Found you in Pinterest! Love this idea!!!!
Those look so good and I like the individual serving size!
I love this idea for a summer BBQ!
Such a brilliant idea, loved the individual cups!!
This is such a great idea! I cannot wait to try it!
Love, love, love this idea – especially during cold and flu season. No offense intended to all the double dippers!!!
Duh – don’t know why I haven’t thought of doing this! I LOVE 7 layer dip… it’d be great to make some up just for personal portion control 😉
what a genius idea! A side from loving mexican, these colorful apps are perfect for parties and it’s great because everyone isn’t reaching for the same bowl!
Love this idea! One because it is fun, and two because of portio control…I always tend to get out of control with the dip.
what a good idea, this also means I can double dip my chips!! LOL
We have a HUGE, I mean HUUUUUGE princess castle in our living room – I feel your toy pain.
love this idea! No more double dippers in your dip! lol…
LOVE this idea! This prevents double dipping and a crowd around the table with the platter! Win, win! Thanks for sharing!
genius! my husband and i were JUST discussing the need for 7 layer dip for our new year’s football watching, but since it’s just the 2 of us we don’t need a full spread. this will be perfect! thanks for the idea.
Awesome idea!
My husband would love these without the beans 🙂
so fun!
What an excellent idea! I’m copying this right now!!!
those are really pretty, I love that idea! Thanks. I will remember that one. 🙂
I love this idea! Love Bree’s idea of letting guests “build their own” too. Saw something similar to this on Pinterest where they squeezed Ranch dressing into small plastic cups and then stuck carrot and celery sticks into it! Think I will do both of these things for my New Year’s Eve party this weekend. Thanks for the great idea.
What is awesome about this one for me, is my husband & child are pickier than me, and they don’t want onions, or black olives, or only a certain salsa etc. This could even be a “make your own bar” where guests could customize their layers! love it!
We are so on the same page..I’ve got a seven-layer dip ready to post too! But I love the individual serving idea!
These are so cute, and I love that you can double dip because it’s your own cup!

Love this idea and will be perfect for this summers bbq’s, thanks!
