{KETO} Egg Roll in a Bowl
Keto Egg Roll in a Bowl is a one-pan dinner made in 15 minutes and is packed with protein and flavor. Made with either ground pork or beef, this Keto recipe tastes just like an Asian egg roll but without the egg roll wrapper.

KETO EGG ROLL IN A BOWL
As I have voiced recently, all my loved ones around me have been doing the Keto diet. I have heard, researched, and cooked all things Keto for the last couple of years. I feel like my life revolves around Keto.
In fact, I joked that any time someone says the word “Keto” around me they have to put a dollar in the swear jar.
If you don’t know what a swear jar is, you’ll probably never waited tables in college.
This Egg Roll in a Bowl is not only Keto but is also a regular dish that I make for the family whether or not they are on the Keto diet.
WHY IS THIS KETO OR LOW-CARB?
Don’t be scared if you aren’t on the Keto diet. The Keto diet is a very low-carb diet which makes this recipe perfect with a net carb of 3 grams.
WHAT IS IN EGG ROLL IN A BOWL?
Egg rolls have ground pork (or beef), cabbage, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, and sesame oil in them. We added some sriracha and green onions to the top for flavor.
DOES AN EGG ROLL HAVE AN EGG IN IT?
A traditional egg roll does not have egg in it but gets its name from the egg in the egg roll wrapper that wraps it all up. We add an egg at the end of cooking this Egg Roll in the Bowl because we love the flavor and extra protein it gives.
If you are doing the Keto diet, eggs are your best friend and are a great addition to this Asian Egg Roll in a Bowl.
WHAT KIND OF MEAT DO I USE?
You can use either pork or beef in this recipe. When eating Keto, it’s really important to have high quality meat that has healthy fat in it.
Grass-fed, organic meat is:
- lower in calories
- contains healthy fats and is high in omega 3s
- supports normal blood sugar levels
WHAT TO EAT WITH EGG ROLL IN A BOWL?
To be honest, usually nothing. It’s a meal all in one!

Notes
Could I ask how much one serving is considered to be? Thanks. 🙂
Delicious! Also like to know how many servings this recipe makes. I’m sure I ate more than 1 serving. lol
This recipe yields 4 servings. Divide the pan in 4 to figure out serving or weigh it and divide by 4. Weight will vary for each person that makes it depending on brand or type of meat.
Made this for the first time tonight and will be making it again! Really easy (no chopping veggies) and no weird ingredients. I’m looking forward to leftovers!
Do you know the nutritional information for this dish. It was perfect
Yes, it’s listed at the bottom of the recipe
Where did the actual recipe go? I’ve been using this recipe for years and over the last few weeks, the recipe itself seems to have disappeared? The page is still here, but no recipe.
Um I still see it?
I’ll start by saying that nobody in my family is on a Keto diet. But we do try to keep the carb count down when we can. So keep that in mind when I mention a couple of “tweaks” I do when I make this, to suit my family’s preferences. The first one being, I almost double the amount of shredded cabbage to lighten it up some. Now for the decidedly non-keto tweaks…
Now, we LOVE good, crunchy egg rolls, dipped in a little bit of sweet and sour sauce. That’s the flavor we’re accustomed to, that’s all. So after making this recipe exactly as written, it was good. Really good, easy, and flavorful. But there was a “something’s missing” reaction from everyone. Now when I make it, I pass around a bag of salad-topping style crispy wonton strips to sprinkle on top, and a squeeze bottle of Korean style sweet chili sauce to barely lace over a serving. And *voila,* nothing at all is missing now! The carbs are still much lower than a regular egg roll, and the flavor is spot-on.
Awesome additions!!! Can’t wait to try this!
We LOVE this. We make it all the time. We used Cudighi in it and it just rounds out the whole dish.
I have leftover shredded pork (lighltly seasoned) and I am wondering if I can use that instead?
I don’t see why not?
I think that sounds delicious!
Can the left overs be frozen in an air tight container.. too much fir one person
sure!
Made this for the first time last night and it was delicious. Easy to make. Used fresh garlic instead of minced. Thinking of trying it in the crock pot with chicken next time.
I just made this and found it to be very salty. Any thoughts?
Try using less soy sauce. Or if you seasoned the meat do less.
Did you use low-sodium soy sauce? What kind of meat did you use.
Try Coconut Aminos! I use that instead of soy sauce. Healthier for you too
Yes I have that listed in the ingredients!
I wonder if you could use shrimp?
You can!
I have been telling my daughter for a couple of weeks that I am craving an eggroll but just the insides (low carb 4 mos now and all). I just made this…literally. And it definitely hits the craving spot! I am ginger/sesame shy (just learning to use those flavors in cooking) so I went light but definitely need to add more now that I am tasting it. I tossed in some ground black pepper and red pepper flakes for the heat (didn’t have sriracha on hand). Really good, super easy, cheap, fast, healthy and tasty! wins across the board! 🙂
Glad you liked it!
Delicious 😋
Thank you!
I’m making it again this morning. It is so quick and easy to throw together with such low effort. Just need to be in the kitchen to stir every few minutes and it is done. Perfect to make at the end of a meal prep while cleaning up or in the morning while making coffee, packing lunch, etc. Speaking of lunch, that is why I made it this morning s for lunch the next couple of days. I eat this in three servings with an extra sriracha (that is an auto correct that I can’t fix) and sprinkled with some sesame seeds. So good!
Don’t understand comments criticizing the recipe when it says in the comments that they changed the recipe. Follow the recipe or don’t complain!
Thank you Jennifer!
Hi, if I am using minced ginger how Much would I add please?
You can use teaspoons of fresh minced ginger to replace the 1 tsp of ground ginger in this recipe
It was sooooooo good! Thank you!!! Shared the recipe with friends!
Thank you!
I don’t eat any animals that walked on four legs nor do I follow Keto. I made this with ground turkey. It worked best for me to add ginger, garlic and soy to taste only and not premeasured in any way. I was able to bring out the ginger flavor without it being to much and could taste the soy without any danger of it being too salty. I used ground dried garlic for convenience sake and probably could have used more than I did. I used prepackaged cole slaw, which worked really good.
This is a good recipe and one can take the idea, as I did and modify it to suit they specific dietary guidelines. I think next time I’ll double down on garlic and use more of a cabbage to turkey ratio. Other than that it came out a delightful meal.
Absolutely delicious recipe and followed it completely!
Thank you!
WAYYYYY too salty and I love salt! Took the advice of many previous commenters and used reduced sodium soy and even put in less than the 1/4 cup and it’s still so overpowering salty and soy tasting.
I’ve made this many times and it is not salty. The recipe calls for low-sodium soy sauce. The only thing I can think of is your meat/
It says LOW SODIUM SOY SAUCE! Read the recipe!!
Thank you!
Loved it.. Great and easy …only thing is if u are salt sensitive, I would lower the soy sauce even the low sodium with half water half soy…..way salty to me when I did it regular way….
I made this tonight. Delicious and SO VERY EASY! I mixed kikap manis soy sauce with low sodium soy sauce (50/50). The kikap manis sauce is thicker & even lower in sodium than the low sodium soy sauce. It has a little sweetness to it so it may not be low carb/keto. Haven’t looked at the sugar/carb count on it yet. Anyway, this is definitely a keeper recipe!
I am making this tonight… and I am using oyster sauce instead of soy… and only two TBS… and a sweet onion… its cooking as we speak… yum…
Love this recipe! Just diagnosed with pre-diabetes, so tasty low-carb meals like this are helpful.
I use ground turkey (got high cholesterol too!) and I add a can of bean sprouts – not sure if they’re keto, but they don’t spike my blood sugar.
This actually freezes well, which makes it convenient for work lunches or when my husband decides to whip up a decadent meal that I can’t indulge in.
So happy to hear that and I hope you check out the other Keto recipes.
I used regular soy sauce. BIG MISTAKE. It had to be the saltiness dish I’ve ever eaten. If I had been in a restaurant, I would have returned it. However. I give it a thumbs up for ease of making and there was a distinct egg roll taste.
Yeah it definitely needs low sodium soy sauce.
When figuring out serving size it says makes 4 , so do I just get the entire thing separate it to 4 as best as I can and that’s one serving or is there a more precise way ?
That’s what I do. The most accurate way is to weigh the whole dish and divide by four.
Can you use ground chicken?
Absolutely!
I use sausage. Good stuff!!
This is my go to recipe for ERIAB. I ran out of soy sauce & substituted Worcestershire & it turned out quite good! Also, since I make this for myself, I always add 2 bags of coleslaw mix & love it like that but this time I had an extra bad that I didn’t want to waste so ended up using 3 bags of slaw mix. Some extra soy and hot sauce & it was perfect. I always use ground pork so for myself, this was great. This is a recipe you cannot ruin. 😎😎
❤️❤️❤️ this recipe! ThAnk you! Very flavorful and easy to make. Will make often.
Thank you!
Hi. I can’t wait to try, I have a silly question, if I bring this to work, can I re-heat in the microwave? For how long? Ty!
I reheat this all the time. 30-45 sec stir and check. I do cauliflower rice on the side. I bring extra soy in case it needs it
Love this recipe but still making tweaks to adjust it my husband and mines preferences. The first time I followed the directions exactly (used low sodium soy) and it was veryyyyyy salty and I this is coming from someone that loves salt!!! Second time I made it I used I added water chestnuts, cut down the amount of soy to a little over 1/8 cup and added ~1 tbs of hoisen. It was close to exactly how I want it but I’m thinking I need to try ground pork or chicken instead of beef! Regardless great recipe and one of those that’s really easy to tweak to your specification!
Yes, just about 2 minutes will do!
I use about 2 and a half bags of Cole slaw mix per lb of whatever ground meat I’m using – lean beef, pork, turkey, or chicken. I double the sauce ingredients. I use half low sodium soy and half aminos, a healthy glug of rice vinegar, sesame oil…. Double the scallions and add shredded carrots if I have them. Makes a ton and reheats very well.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I made this. Wow!!!! After the first bite, I was stoked! Having recently started keto, I was in need of meal ideas. This is delicious, very flavorful and definitely hits the spot. I don’t even miss the whole egg roll! I’ll be making this again! Thank you for sharing!
Love this recipe!! Made it several times. Maybe this will help others … use chicken broth if you need liquid, add frozen peas/carrots mix, use fresh ginger.. those are my tweaks 🙂 absolutely delicious. Thank you for recipe!
Is the nutrition information listed with pork or beef? Thanks 🙂
Beef
Do you use sriracha powder or sauce?
I use sauce.
I love this recipe! I just made it for two days of lunches for me and my husband. We tasted it and he said ‘That’s really good” – our 12 year old daughter also really enjoyed it.
Modifications: I used ground chicken – was out of ground ginger so subbed 1/8 tsp allspice & 1/8 tsp turmeric- cooked egg separately
I have already sent this to a few friends who also meal prep lunches and they are going to try it.
Thank you for sharing this!
Thank you for sharing!
This was sooooo good! I’ll probably tweak this recipe in the future because I can’t help myself, but it’s perfect as-is. Instant weeknight staple!
Awesome!
Overall great! I used ground pork. I also used fresh ginger (google the conversion). I chopped the green onion and added the white parts into the sauté and the green parts for the garnish (hello fresh style). My only downvote is that it was a bit too salty for us. Doesn’t look like anyone else said this though. Next time I’ll do half the amount and add more liquid aminos to my bowl if needed. Sesame seeds were a nice addition too!
I’ve never had it salty. I wonder if it’s the pork you used?
Spot on with the saltiness… it’s the amount of soy sauce in the recipe. I typically double or triple this recipe, but found that the salt (even with low sodium) is extremely overwhelming, so I cut the amount at LEAST in half, sometimes I only use 1/4th the amount… balances the flavors immensely!
Are you using Kikomans? Mine is never salty with that.
Love this recipe!!! Served over a little brown rice, delicious! Also used lean ground beef 😋
How much is 1 serving? 1 cup, 1.5 cup?
There are 4 servings in one batch. It will depend on your cabbage and but is probably around 1.5 cups.
I e made this before and have always enjoyed it. Tonight I was cooking and realized I was out of soy sauce. I substituted Worcestershire sauce and guess what…still delicious!!
AWEsome!
OMG this recipe is amazing. Family loved it. It’s surely a keeper. THANK YOU!!!
Thank you!
This is not a comment but a question. Can you make this vegetarian. I am not a big pork eater. Would I need to adjust the spices in any way.
Thanks
You wouldn’t need to adjust the spices. I know others have made this with tofu
I plan to make this with TVP (textured vegetable protein) since it is similar to ground meat. Mushrooms may be a good sub, too.
Mushrooms worked really well for me. I also added another egg.
This is now one of my favorites.
Awesome!
Is it possible to make this in advance, refrigerate and then later reheat? I’m thinking about taking this to a pot luck event. Thanks you.
Yes, just cook the cabbage barely so when you reheat it won’t be mushy.
My whole family loved it. Going to make a double batch.
So happy to hear that!
So good and so easy! Great favor, definitely in our weekly rotation!!
Thank you!
This was AMAZING! So glad I found this recipe!
Yay! I’m glad you liked it.
Made this for this for the first time and LOVED it! So delicious, easy and affordable! Did I say YUM? Definitely, going to be a weekly meal for me! Thank you!
Awesome! Glad you liked it.
Yummy and very delicious and healthy- great recipes
Thank you!
So yummy! I shredded a whole cabbage and 4-5 carrots and an onion. Because of the large amount of cabbage I doubled the soy and ginger and it turned out great. My 4 year old helped make it and enjoyed eating it, too. Thanks for the recipe!
I thought this recipe was FANTASTIC! ONLY change I made was to use Chili Oil instead of Sriracha. Totally going to make again! Thank u!
The last person’s crabby comment moved me to post my own review. My family loves this recipe, which I also double. I add shredded carrots too.
Aww thank you!
I have made this multiple times. I love it! ! I even add bean sprouts, Absolutely delicious! I am a low carber and not only is this healthy but definitely low carb and I have reversed my type 2 & have been diabetes medication for 7 years with low-carb meals like this. Delicious meal. I use amino’s and Sriracha w shaved carrots, Ginger, minced garlic, sesame oil and sometimes use a couple of eggs . I’m adding leftover ground turkey with ground pork tonight so it will last longer and feed more!! I garnish with spring onions. Delicious. Thank you for your Great recipe!
Who ever wrote this recipe is full of it.. we have a large family so i made a double batch of this, and wasted the money.. Each batch made per instructions.. this taste NOTHING like an eggrolll.
This recipe literally has the ingredients that are in an egg roll. Attempt to be kinder when using free recipe sites.
Sorry but this is my FAVORITE recipe. It’s healthy and delicious!
Did you follow the directions? It tastes exactly like an egg roll minus the crunchy shell. You’re in the minority here dude.
Also can add wonton strips for a crunch to give it that egg roll bite! sorry it wasn’t for you.
I made this but added 1 tsp munk sweetener and 1 tbsp sugar free apricot jam to the soy sauce . It was delicious.
Yum! Great idea
Great with ground turkey! Served over spaghetti squash. Added raw shredded carrots as garnish for crunch.
Great idea!
Delicious. Thank you!
Thank you!
Hello. Looking for great healthy recipes
Can these be made ahead and frozen. Then what’s the best way to thaw them and reheat them?
I have the same question! Did you try doing this?
I would thaw in the fridge overnight and heat up in a skillet.
I add a lot of garlic and some chopped kimchi to this. Always yummy!
Made this with ground Turkey and it fell short on flavor. Would recommend using about double the amount of cabbage or add other veggies as the meat
to cabbage ration was way off.
Ground turkey has no flavor. This is keto so the meat to cabbage ratio is high since cabbage has carbs.
What are some other veggies you can add to this in addition to the cabbage? I love to pile on the veggies in my recipes!
Carrots, broccoli, snap peas, zucchini you name it
When do you add the egg? The instructions don’t say.
Yes it says in step #2
Make a well in the center of the skillet and add the egg. Scramble until done over low heat.
Hi! What is a serving size of this? Thank you!
I found a package of mushroom crumbles and this recipe was a perfect use for them! I put the egg roll mix over cauliflower rice and use chili paste. Yum! Thank you!
You’re welcome!
This was really good! We both had seconds. Will definitely make it again soon. Thanks!!!
This was a delicious quick and easy keto dinner. Four servings is perfect for us to have dinner and lunch the next day. I made the recipe exactly as is. Thanks!
You’re welcome!
Great foundation recipe- I’ve used ground turkey or chicken and added baby bok choy, mushrooms, or whatever other veggies I have on hand. I like to use fresh ginger and play around with the seasoning too, sometimes using fish sauce for part of the soy sauce or fermented chili sauce. Great on its own or over rice noodles!
I’ve tried this a few times. I have tweeked it so it’s perfect for me. I cut the amount of meat in half, and doubled the cabbage. Delicious!
This is an excellent recipe. We sometimes serve this with a little parboiled rice, and I needed an added crunch with it, so I sprinkle with slivered almonds and/or sometimes sesame seeds. So good!
Delicious! Had to use chili garlic sauce for spice. Also added broccoli and sliced red bell pepper!
Thanks for sharing recipe with us!
Been anxious to try this recipe but I don’t have all the ingredients. Planning to substitute jalapeno hot sauce in place of chili sauce and Worcestershire sauce in place of soy sauce because thats what I have on hand. However I also don’t have sesame oil so wondering if olive oil can be substituted. Would that substitution truly affect the flavor? Also since I decided to write to you, is it ok to go forward with the other substitutions or should I just wait until the next time I go shopping?
Go buy sesame oil & soy sauce – it will make a positive difference in this recipe!
Sesame oil really makes this dish. If you can make this as written I think you would really enjoy it!
I’d just buy the ingredients. Your substitutions are a completely different flavor profile and frankly a completely different dish.
Can you use dried ginger. I’m a man and would like to make this process easier.
This recipe actually does call for ground ginger which is dried.
What has other used to replace the sriracha. Preferably something without spice. Thanks in advance!
I like plum sauce with mine
I put in a squirt of ketchup.
This was absolutely delicious. I had my eye on this recipe for about a month and finally made it tonight. I used ground turkey but that was the only thing I changed. I well be making this again very soon.
It’s so good!
What do you recommend serving on the side with this dish?
Lo Mein noodles or cook up some instant ramen to mix in??
I mean it’s kind of an all in one meal? You could serve a salad?
I added a little a little splash of rice vinegar. It just needed a little bit of brightening up for me. That took it to a whole other level. So good!
I am preparing to make this but need to know what might be a good substitute for the sriracha? I have digestive issues and cannot tolerate something this spicy.
I didn’t have sriracha on hand, Myra, so I used a teaspoon of chili paste. The brand we use doesn’t have the ‘heat’ of sriracha anyway, plus I cut the amount in half.
red pepper flakes? Or chili paste?
Unbelievably delicious. This was my first attempt at a pot pie and I don’t think it could have been better. please visit us: https://www.beckandbulow.com
This wasn’t a pot pie, dude.
Loved this recipe but need to cut back on soya sauce or aminos- too salty for my BP. Will make again with just a lot less Braggs amino. Thank you!
Did you use low sodium soy sauce like instructed?
I am assuming they did, but while I was at the store shopping for this recipe I compared low sodium soy sauce to liquid aminos and the aminos had way less sodium. Still it is 310 mg per 1tsp and this recipe calls for 1/4 cup so that is a lot of sodium for someone with high blood pressure they should have 1500mg or less of sodium a day.
can’t handle soy sauce what can i sub for it?
Coconut aminos
aminos are a great sub
Can this be frozen & reheated ?
Yes!
