Mardi Gras Gumbo
Mardi Gras is here! What are you guys doing for it? I’m headed off to the slopes to snowboard but I couldn’t go without leaving you with some New Orleans style gumbo. Head over to Tablespoon where I give some tips for making a stellar gumbo and for the recipe.
Sorry, this is not authentic New Orleans gumbo. First off, gumbo is a soup. The picture looks like it contains no liquid at all. Didn’t even look at the recipe ’cause the picture’s not right. Second, you don’t mix chicken & sausage with shrimp. It’s one or the other. Also, you add a cup of rice to the bowl, you don’t put a cup of gumbo over a bowl full of rice. The chicken looks like it was placed on top. In gumbo, everything is cooked together in one pot. This chicken was stir fried a arranged on top. Not authentic, not New Orleans style gumbo.
Calling this “New Orleans Gumbo” is like calling Boone’s Farm a Champagne.
oooooh looks good!
This is perfect for Mardi gras! Great recipe.
Have so much fun in Colorado! Wish we were going to play too!
Can I just say that your food blog is by far my favorite blog?? I follow quite a few and sift through MANY and I still ALWAYS default to yours. The last 5 dinners I’ve made have come from your blog – and they were easy, cheap and DELICIOUS! Thanks for keeping this up! You’re really improving this newlyweds’ cooking. Can’t wait to try the gumbo!
Looks good, i have not had Gumbo in a long time; I won’t be able to make it in time for Mardi Gras, but i wil have to this weekend! Thanks for the recipe!
