Peanut Butter “Cheese” Ball
I wasn’t kidding when I said I’ve been obsessed with peanut butter lately. But I think I’ve finally satisfied my pregnancy craving.
I made this peanut butter cheese ball for a get together last weekend that ended up getting cancelled at the last minute.
My husband was out of town for an away game so that left me with this peanut butter cheese ball all alone. There was no one home to pull in the reigns or least make my conscience feel a little guilty as I devoured it.
The first time I tasted this was at game night at my friend Jenni’s house. I was training for a marathon and just completed one of my long runs that day so I was feeling like I had earned the right to eat whatever I wanted.
So I did. I ate about half of the cheese ball…no joke.
Freeze the peanut butter mixture in saran wrap to make a ball shape. After the ball has set up, roll it in the peanut butter and chocolate morsels.
If you are a peanut butter fan, you will love this. If you aren’t…we can’t be friends.
Or maybe you should try these peanut butter treats to change your mind.
This is really kid friendly and what I did share of it with my kids, they loved eating with apple slices.

Peanut Butter “Cheese Ball”
Ingredients
- 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter, (not all-natural)
- 3 tablespoons packed brown sugar
- 3/4 cup milk chocolate chips
- 3/4 cup peanut butter chips
- Graham cracker sticks, teddy grahams, and/or apple slices for dipping
Instructions
- Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, peanut butter and brown sugar in large mixer bowl until blended.
- Spoon onto a large piece of plastic wrap; bring up all four corners and twist tightly forming into a ball shape.
- Freeze for 1 hour 30 minutes or until firm enough to keep its shape. Place peanut butter and chocolate chips in flat dish. Remove plastic wrap from ball and roll ball into morsels to completely cover, pressing morsels into the ball if necessary.
- Place ball on serving dish; cover and freeze for 2 hours or until almost firm. (Can be made ahead. If frozen overnight, thaw at room temperature for 20 to 30 minutes before serving.) Serve with graham cracker sticks, teddy grahams, or apple slices for dipping or spreading.

Notes
just made it today, ,it is amazing, I put half with the chips on the outside, and the other half I put heath bar on , its great.
It’s absolutely delicious! Thanks for sharing this recipe!
@Anonymous,
I’ve made it with both milk chocolate chips and other times with semi-sweet. I think it’s personal preference but in the picture it’s semi-sweet chocolate chips.
Do you use semi-sweet chocolate chips on this?
this would be wonderful made into individual little balls rolled in different things as a bite size appetizer at parties! I wonder how yummy it would be rolled in Heath Bar crumbles
Love
Jeannie
I made this and it was a BIG hit for our 4th of July picnic!!
thanks much
michon
@anonymous,
Yes after the ball has set it’s perfectly fine in the fridge.
After the cheeseball is “set” is it okay to just keep it in the fridge before serving?
I made this last weekend and I am still getting texts a week later for the recipe!!! It was so gooooood
@Anonymous,
I don’t think the almond butter or sunflower butter would maintain the shape of the cheese ball enough. I think the ball would be runny. I could be wrong though!
If there’s peanut allergies in our house, can we use almond or sunflower butter instead?
Saw this on Pinterest.com and im in the process of making it right now! Waiting for it to harden in the freezer, soooo easy and im sure it will be delicious! My husband and kids are going to love it!
Made this for my office for National Chocolate Chip Day yesterday. Wow! Loved it and so did everyone else! I sent at least five people to your site. LOVE, LOVE this recipe!
This is soo yummy! I made this for the girls who helped me make my wedding invitations and it was gone! sooo yummy 🙂 Thanks!!
This was absolutely delicious! I had friends over and this was the perfect dipping dessert 🙂 Thanks for posting something so yummy!

Re-blogged this!
Thanks for this little slice of heaven! It was a hit at my party.

@debcom,
I definitely think that would work and would survive the freezing.
Christy
I just reread the recipe- could I just leave it in the freezer a few days, thaw slightly so that i can roll it in the chips…do you think it would survive the freezing??
How long will this keep in the fridge once its made up?? I would like to make this ahead for a party . Thanks
TYVM you’ve solved all my prmlbeos
There is no life without peanut butter! I could not have that little jewel in my house!
There’s a mega foodie grocery store in Cincinnati that makes a PB cheeseball, and every time I’m in town, I make a special trip there to buy it (and a few other things too!). For this recipe, I will be my childrens’ hero, and you will be mine…
Christine
This recipe is good and easy! I want to encourage my grandkids to like to work with food as much as I do and this is a recipe for the job! After I made it, I let my 7 year old grandson make it!

I am speechless. This looks amazing. I can’t wait for an excuse to make this asap!
I made this last night for a party and everybody went wild for it. Thanks!!
I just made the peanut butter cheese ball! It is for a friends surprise party, she is going to love it! She is ga-ga over Pb!
Ohhhh my….this looks amazing. I could see us leaving this in the fridge and sneaking bites of it for snacks…breakfast….dessert…whatever. 🙂 Thanks for the recipe!!
@Melissa,
The ball is pretty soft after it’s been out a while so with natural peanut butter it would probably just be a gooey mess just because natural peanut butter is pretty liquidy.
This looks great, but why no natural PB?
Brilliant AND yummy!!
@T Byrd,
YESSS! I hate that they look like dog treats. They are Scooby-Snacks – just cinnamon graham cracker sticks for kids. My grocery store was out of regular graham sticks. But like I said I really prefer apple slices the best for this ball.
I made this for a church dinner today, and it was a big hit. Very easy to put together, tasty too. I’m also thinking it would be simple to make this a chocolate PB cheese ball if you added cocoa in with the powdered sugar. It was excellent
so what is in the picture you are going to dip with?
am I the only one who thinks they look like dog treats :-/ LOL
other than that… it looks awesome!
I thought the same, so I scrolled down to see what everyone else was saying. Somebody said Scooby snacks ROTF. Looks like dog biscuits to me. Sorry I couldn’t get past that.
I saw this yesterday and just had to make it. Good thing we had a family gathering tonight. It was gobbled up. I’m glad I bought another bag of chocolate chips so I can make more to enjoy. I like that it’s not super peanut butter or super sweet, just absolutely delicious!
OMGosh!
I love you.
I’ve taken one look at the first couple posts on your blog, noticed that every other recipe included some variation of chocolate or peanut butter, and have now decided that I officially am obsessed with your blog.
I absolutely NEED to try that peanut butter cheese ball. That is absolutely genius.
Can’t wait to find more inspiration!

@martinb, The ball is pretty soft after it’s been out a while so with natural peanut butter it would probably just be a gooey mess.
Oh my!! I’m going to make this the next time i need to bring a dessert! Yummy ^_^
So super duper awesome. Love this whole idea! I posted a link at EdibleCrafts.CraftGossip.com 🙂
This looks absolutely amazing! And I love the idea of dipping apples too! What a perfect treat for my hubby and kiddo. So excited to make it this weekend! Thanks for posting!
Whoah! This. Is. Intense. I mean. Whoah. But it sure is tasty as hell! I have never mixed PB and cream cheese together. This would certainly make a kick-*ss frosting for chocolate cupcakes!
Cheers,
Tobias
Just found your site from a picture on Pinterest… you’re going on my side bar 🙂 Love your site and your recipes look amazing 🙂
This is so clever! And dangerously addicting. I can just picture my friends and I sitting around this at the coffee table, and devouring it in no time flat. 😉
My son would go ga-ga for this one! I made a similar ‘cheese’ ball that was cookie dough-ish, but I must admit that your pb ball looks WAY better!
Too good to be true!!
Looks really good!
But how come you shouldn’t use all-natural pb?
Oh Bless you for this!!!! I am 8 weeks pregnant with my first baby and cannot for the life of me figure out what I want to eat because 99% of food sounds repulsive and THEN like magic I saw this beautiful peanut butter creation and have faith that I can eat something delicious again!!! Thank you for this even if it makes me gain 10 pounds of un-related-to-pregnancy weight.
Your recipe is clearly a hit!
I was just browsing through, and it is being pinned over & over again on Pinterest!
OMG, I so want to take this into a closet and be in seven minutes of heaven! Yep, me and this ball all alone. Drooling….
This. Looks. Amazing.
Found it on pinterest!!
are those dog treats!?!! haha!! this looks yummy =)
That looks like a perfect indulgent treat!
This looks absolutely amazing. I do NOT need to be left alone in a room with one of these. Not under any circumstances.
That really does look scrumptious!
Aaaaaaand I die. I die of happiness and envy and lust all at the same time.
I am a PB FREAK!!! And this looks so good, I am making it this weekend.
Sweet baby Jesus. That’s all. I’m done for.
I am a huge peanut butter lover myself and this looks like the perfect treat to satisfy that peanut butter craving!
Omg omg omg omg. I love you for making this. It would totally satisfy any peanut butter craving… at least for the day O:-).

Look up Southern Living Magazine and put in Chocolate Chip Cheeseball. It’s to die for!! Serve it with chocolate graham crackers!
When hearing “peanut butter cheese ball” I was at first a little disgusted but very curious… but now that I understand, this looks incredible! I’m sure I would eat half of it also.

Oh dear Lord! Yes please! This has officially been ‘pinned’.
Oh YUMMY!
Wish I had seen this the other day …. I would have made it for my birthday LOL!
I think I need to have an appetizer get together or something and make all sorts of cheese balls, dips, etc!
This sounds amazing! You definitely did deserve to eat half of this after your long run – it’s full of protein:-)….This is a keeper and a great alternative to the usual chocolate chip cheese ball…
I have been obsessed with PB for…well, 10+ years. I must say, this is by far the best use of peanut butter I have seen in a good deal of time. Since I am training for my next marathon too, I do think this is a keeper!
