TACO PIZZA RECIPE
I just came back from a seven day social media break. It. Was. Fabulous. I’m a person who gets major anxiety every time I hear my phone ring or vibrate. I have my phone on Do Not Disturb so that it affects me less.
Here’s what I learned from my social media break:
- Multitasking has made my efficiency in doing anything plummet. I go to the gym and scroll on Pinterest. I sit outside the grocery store trying to make a grocery list and next thing I know I’m looking at my sister’s friend’s aunt’s recipe for cookies. When you take it all away, I’m focused. Tasks are done quickly. Workouts are in and out. Done.
- I have a new desire to get rid of the fluff. Anyone that doesn’t make me feel good about my life…unfollow. Accounts that create noise instead of value…unfollow. And noise isn’t humor. Noise is just that…noise. You know what I mean.
- Social media keeps me close to family and friends. I live thousands of miles away from all my friends and family. I visit once maybe twice a year. Online connections are all I have. Feeling like I’m a part of their lives and their kids lives are because of the power of social media. Without it, I felt very out of the loop and very disconnected.
Okay back to the Taco Pizza. Ya’ll if you haven’t had Taco Pizza, you’re really missing out. You know I love these Taco Pizza Rolls, well these are like the grandma of those.
Instead of a tortilla, pizza crust. Refried beans and salsa are serving as our “sauce”. Think a crisp pizza crust with a gooey cheese, seasoned taco meat, beans, salsa, black olives (I add these out of obligation if I’m being honest), tomatoes, green onions, and sour cream.
An easy meal and kid friendly dinner for picky eaters.
Notes for this Taco Pizza:
You can make homemade pizza dough or buy pizza dough. Bakeries often sell premade dough for around $2. Your dough may range in weight between 12-16 ounces. If you like a thick crust, use a 12″ pan and for a thinner crust use a 14″ or 16″ pan. You could even use a 9×13 pan!
Some people even use crescent rolls or crescent roll dough. For best results, I like pizza dough.
DO YOU NEED A PIZZA OVEN?
I don’t use a pizza oven to make Taco Pizza, but you certainly could if you wanted to try it! The Ooni Koda is a super popular outdoor option but it’s a little pricey at $600. For crispier pizza in the oven, I like to use a pizza pan like this one from Cuisinart.

Taco Pizza
Ingredients
- 1 (12-16 ounce) pizza dough, (depending on if you want thick or thin crust)
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 (1 ounce) packet of taco seasoning
- 1 (15 ounce) can refried beans
- 1/4 cup salsa
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese , (or Mexican blend cheese)
- sliced olives, (about 1/4 cup)
- Toppings: diced tomatoes, sliced green onions, sour cream, and taco sauce
Equipment
Instructions
- Let pizza dough rest at room temperature for about 20 minutes.
- While dough is resting, brown beef in a large skillet. Add the taco seasoning, add water called for on the package, and cook according to the package instructions. Set aside.
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Press the or roll the dough onto a 12-inch pizza pan, pizza stone, or larger pan (see note). Bake for 8 minutes. Remove from oven.
- In a small bowl, stir together the refried beans and salsa. Spread a thin layer onto the pizza crust. If you are using a 12-inch pan you might not need all of it. If you're using a larger pizza pan or a 9x13 pan you will use all of it.
- Sprinkle with the ground beef mixture, cheese, and olives. Bake for about 5 minutes or until cheese is completely melted. Remove from the oven and top with tomatoes and green onions. You can add a dollop of sour cream to the center or let everyone top their own. Add taco sauce if desired.
This was the best taco pizza I ever ate. My husband loves it ☺️. We both said it’s the bomb 💣💣. Simply delicious 😋😋😋.
Yay!! Thank you!
I am making this for dinner tonight. Well actually I have to make two! One with ground beef for my husband and one with impossible ground for myself because I am a vegetarian. I have not had taco pizza in years!!! I am going to get doritos and crush them up to put on top. I’m so excited for dinner!
Yum!!
I found this recipe made it and it was delicious. I’ve made it with hamburger and chicken both were fine. It’s a staple at our house
Thank you for sharing Christy! You gave me a good laugh! It’s good to hear I’m not the only person that experiences stress/anxiety when I hear my phone ring, and I stay away from social media. My siblings, adult kids, nieces & nephews know the best way to converse with me…. Walk or run with me. Thanks again Christy
❤️Bobbie
Haha I love that
Yummy
Thank you!
looks great to eat and looks good
Thank you!
looks great to eat
I am thinking Italian sausage would taste so much better then beef.
Also don’t forget lettuce and your favorite salsa or hot sauce on the side
Delicious pizza. We made it with Hot & Spicy taco seasoning. This recipe is a keeper. Thank you.
Ooh yum!
Only 5 minutes cooks that crust and all those toppings? I have to cook my thin-crust dough in my 700 degree pizza oven for 6 minutes to get it cooked.
The instructions say 8 minutes. WHere are you looking?
There is a first bake for 8 minutes for the crust before you start the toppings. The second bake is aftert topping.
I seen in the comments that you use pace but ya’ll were looking for a good salsa, I use Pace too until I found Over the Border hot but I also get mild or medium because of the Grandkids. I will be trying this because Grandkids love tacos, but I’m going to have to found something other than the bean three of them do like beans.
Delicious and easy!

Yum! How did you use the crushed Fritos?
Hey Christy, I just felt compelled to comment on your “social media” break you wrote about. I do not have Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. I have simply bookmarked around two dozen food blogging websites and check them several times a week. (Yours is #4 on my list!). I’m not sure exactly what you are referring to as “noise”, so I’m going to take a stab at this from my perspective. I really enjoyed the recipes on a few blogs, but in a short period of time, I realized that they simply weren’t for me. If bloggers want to include family, travel or other points of interest, along with their recipes….to each his own. However, I found the constant “humor”, often laced in sarcasm and negativity simply too much and I had to stop following a few of them. Humor is a wonderful thing, but a little can go a long way, if you know what I mean. Sorry…..didn’t mean to get preachy or anything. I just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed your blog over the years. I truly believe that you have found a nice balance between sharing, while not oversharing. And doing so in a way that is sincere, uplifting and positive. Thank you for being you!
Vicki,
Thank you for your kind words. And I would love to know what blogs are #1-3 so I can follow. Sometimes social media like facebook and Instagram can show only the best parts of people’s lives and it leaves some to feel inadequate about their own lives. My kids did a 7 day social media break as suggested by our LDS church and to support them I did the same.
You nailed it with your take on “noise”. There’s so much we can partake in and read about people. If we aren’t selective about the people we follow the “noise” can prevent us from the space that we need for creativity, inspiration, and focus.
I appreciate your kind words. I’m not sure if I’m always doing it right but I’m just being me. Thanks for leaving me such an uplifting comment. Christy
Christy, Thanks for your sweet response. I will gladly share my #1-3 bloggers with you. First, I must preface it by saying that I love to bake. But I really enjoy a well-rounded blog that includes dinners and snacks, or I would be baking every single day! And I may have “under-exaggerated” the number of blogs that I follow. Is that even a word, “under-exaggerated”? Oh well, I’m using it. I thought it was around two dozen and then I counted this morning and it is actually 34!! YIKES!! I may have a slight problem. So I’m going to throw my top 10 your way. More than likely, you already follow some of these, but on the off chance that you’ve never heard of them, maybe you’ll like them as well. #1 Sally’s Baking Addiction (I am a baker at heart); #2-10: Mel’s Kitchen Cafe; Cooking Classy: The Girl Who Ate Everything (YAY!); Brown Eyed Baker; Averie Cooks; Your Homebased Mom; Oh Sweet Basil; Barefeet in the Kitchen and The Pioneer Woman. Again, I love baking any and all desserts, so a few baking blogs you might enjoy include: Cookies and Cups; Just so Tasty; Sugar Spun Run and Baking a Moment. I hope you find a new blog that interests you enough to start following it. Have a great day and keep on doing what you’re doing because your blog has great recipes and is pure fun!!
Hi Vicki!! I just wanted to say if I find a recipe I like and I don’t feel like reading a whole blog you can push the button towards the top that says “jump to the recipe “. Sometimes I just want to see the recipe and nothing else lol!
Thanks Shannon!
You had me at Taco… and then it even got better. A taco pizza? Yes please. Making this asap.
I’m really, really hungry now reading AND seeing this.
E || OH LA LATKES

My kids loved it!
Delicious. Made this just the other day and of course was busy so didn’t make my own crust and didn’t know what to do but did have a loaf of French Bread so I sliced it in half long way, spread on a bit of garlic butter, put in oven for a few minutes (just long enough to toast up a bit)and then layered on the toppings, returned to oven to bake for a few minutes; until cheese was well melted. Turned out Great.
Great way to improvise!
hey girl- this looks so yummy!
Thank you!
Do you have a favorite salsa from the store? I’ve been buying different brands and trying them out, but this AZ girl is picky ha ha! Too sweet, too watery, just not right. I love salsa big time but don’t always have time to make it. I’d love to know what you use!
Hey I’m an AZ girl too and I’ve never found one I liked. For this Pizza, it’s not super important since we’re mixing it with beans and just want to give it some flavor and kick. I used Pace.
Im an AZ boy via NY and ive also been searching for good store bought salsa. Ive been enjoying 505 brand salsa tried a few of them. If you like salsa verde i really like Walmarts brand called World Table salsa verde.
