CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE RECIPE

You guys know how much I love cookies. I have quite a few chocolate chip cookie recipes on my site and they each hold a special place in my heart.

Each recipe I have been devoted to for an era before I find my next favorite.

These Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies were my go-to for years.

Then I switched to these Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies which have cornstarch in the dough to keep them soft.

Of course there were these Browned Butter Salty Chocolate Chip Cookies which has that nutty layer of flavor. The dough is so good.

But of all the cookies, this one tops them all. I haven’t shared them yet.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THESE

  • No chilling the dough only to “unchill” the dough to scoop them out.
  • Round measurements. I know that sounds weird but there’s something so satisfying about whole cup measurements and not having to pull out a bunch of measuring cups.
  • The dough isn’t too wet or too dry.
  • It makes more than two dozen. Depending how big you make your balls of course, this makes about 3 dozen.chocolate chip cookie dough

    SALTED VS UNSALTED BUTTER

I use unsalted butter when baking so I can add salt to taste. That is my personal choice. If you like using salted butter, use it. You may need to decrease the salt in the dough.

DO THESE FREEZE WELL?

Yes. There are two ways to freeze these.

  1. You can scoop the cookie dough balls onto a cookie sheet and freeze them. Then, take the frozen balls off the sheet and throw them into a gallon freezer bag and freeze. To bake, follow instructions below. Let the cookie dough balls sit on the cookie sheet while the oven preheats.
  2. You can freeze baked cookies after they have cooled. This method isn’t my favorite because the gooey center won’t happen with this version.chocolate chip cookie

PRO TIPS

I like to press a few chocolate chips on top at this point to make them look like bakery cookies. I also sprinkle with a little flaked salt to bring out the flavors.

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer or using a hand mixer, cream together the butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla. Mix until well combined.
  • Slowly mix in the flour mixture until combined. Add the chocolate chips and stir until just combined.
  • Scoop 1 ½ tablespoons of dough (I use this scoop) onto the baking sheet 2-inches apart from each other. Bake for 8-10 minutes or just until the edges start to brown. You can make them bigger if you like. Remove from oven and let them sit on the baking sheet for a few minutes. I like to press a few chocolate chips on top at this point to make them look like bakery cookies. I also sprinkle with a little flaked salt to bring out the flavors.
