Chocolate Sauce Recipe
This Chocolate Sauce recipe is a easy homemade sauce and takes any dessert to the next level. This homemade chocolate syrup recipe is made from simple ingredients and perfect to top an ice cream sundae or brownies!

CHOCOLATE SAUCE
This easy homemade chocolate sauce recipe was emailed to me by one of my husband’s friends that he grew up with, Andria.
She said I had to have this recipe and I’m so grateful she gave it to me years ago. She likes to use it in crepes or for dipping strawberries.
I use it to top ice cream and then for one of our favorite desserts, an Eclair Cake, just the other day. My favorite thing is to eat it by the spoonful.
Did I mention that my husband can’t stand the taste of Hershey’s syrup? So this will be replacing it with this simple chocolate sauce in any dish I make from now on…
HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE SAUCE

In a small saucepan, stir the cocoa powder and sugar together well. Whisk in the remaining ingredients: milk, melted butter, and salt. The key is to start with room temperature ingredients.

Bring to medium heat and gradually increase until it reaches a boil. Continue stirring until it starts to thicken, about 1-2 minutes. You want it to coat the back of a spoon. If you want a thicker mixture cook longer.

Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla. It will still be thin once you are done with this step. Don’t worry once you let it cool down a bit it will thicken. It will thicken a lot when chilled. Makes around 1 cup of sauce.
INGREDIENTS
- UNSWEETENED COCOA POWDER – You can find this in the baking aisle.
- SUGAR
- EVAPORATED MILK – This is different from regular milk. It has a silkier texture.
- BUTTER
- SALT – A pinch of salt cuts the sweetness.
- VANILLA

Ingredients
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup evaporated milk, (a 5 ounce can)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a cold saucepan, stir the cocoa powder and sugar together well. Whisk in the milk, melted butter, and salt.

I’m assuming by the amount of sugar in the recipe that the cocoa in this sauce is unsweetened? (just want to make sure). Thanks.
YEs, unsweetened is the way to go.
i made this twice – once as directed and once using a double boiler – and both times it totally seized up. what am i doing wrong?
Hmm. Usually when chocolate seizes it’s because the heat is too heat. To fix seized chocolate you can add a tablespoon or two of boiling water.

I don’t like buying more ingredients than I regularly use. This recipe works great for chocolate dipped strawberries without buying extras.
